Hey, so I noticed that the Atmel chip on the display board can report its firmware revision ( see here ). This isn't currently used for anything beyond a sanity check during probe. I was wondering if this can be used to distinguish screens that support the correct PWM backlight control (not only on/...

You can stream it on the network with IP *multicast*. That way you only have to send one copy to the network for each unique program and your bandwidth requirements don't scale linearly with the number of Pis that need to receive the program. This is how IPTV usually works.
