Re: Sending serial from PC to pi3

You need serial to be enabled to send or receive anything on the Pi. What you don't want enabled is the serial login/console. Enabling the serial hardware adds "enable_uart=1" to /boot/config.txt Ah, you finally got it through to me :) Now serial is enabled and I have "enable_uart=1" in config.txt ...

Re: Sending serial from PC to pi3

How is serial going to work if it is disabled? You need the login shell to be disabled and the serial hardware to be enabled. I guess I'm writing it incorrectly, the Serial interface is disabled. From memory..... Preferences>Interfaces>Serial> disabled is selected. When I start my C# app that read/...

Re: Pi3 Sending data over serial from pi to PC

If nothing shows up then you haven't got the connections right, you've got the baud rate wrong, or you've got the protocol (usually 8-N-1) wrong. Or your program doesn't work because it's writing to the wrong serial interface. Take a look in /dev (with an ls /dev/* command) there should be /dev/ser...

The serial console needs to be disabled in raspi-config (it normmally runs with a getty task at 115200 and a root console session).
I've tried sending data from the python script to the PC with the serial console enabled and disabled. Nothing shows up on the PC.

It works as expected.
How were you able to verify that it worked as expected?
"As expected" meaning with Serial enabled I was able to log into the pi via putty from the PC.

Re: Pi3 Sending data over serial from pi to PC

Here is one I've used. I try to read the data on the PC using Putty and terminal on MAC. I've also tried reading it with a custom c sharp program. I've tried this with serial enabled and disabled on the pi. I'm using of of Adafruit's usb to serial, 954, cables to connect the computer to the pi. impo...

Pi3 Sending data over serial from pi to PC

I have Putty connecting to my pi using a serial console cable. It works as expected. I would like to use a python script to send a message back to my PC from the pi, just a hello world script so I can understand how it works.

Many thanks!

Re: STICKY: Introduce yourself!

Hi,

In my last year of High School, circa 1975, I was told by my academic adviser "You're not college material, I recommend construction for you". I suspect she really meant ditch digging. I've made my living, since 1982, developing software.

Love, love, love the pi!
