well I was wondering about what parts one could get that would be able to automatically rock a rocking chair, which could be controlled by a raspi.
I'd love to hear some suggestions

Does PHP show any errors?

If not maybe do

ini_set ( 'display_errors' , '1' );
error_reporting ( 'E_ALL' );

at the start of the script.

I would go for SQLite on the Pi, because getting Postgres or MySQL running would require a massive amount of learning and tweaking the Pi. Not all hardware is automagically detected,

sometimes you need to load the module "manually".

Try a modprobe lirc_mceusb

If that does work you might want to put lirc_mceusb into the /etc/modules file
