Re: Raspberry Pi with multiple wireless sensors

Hi, have you heard of espruino, they have a low power mode which only consumes 11mA - so your sensor can sleep in between temperature readings, espruinos also use ESP8266 for the WiFi connection. Charging and replacing those 20 batteries could become a full time job. However if your hives are too fa...

Re: Long-Range RPI communication with mobile device

Hi, your phone has WiFi, cellular and bluetooth but you want a decent range between the drone and your phone - so you can send new waypoints midflight? Have you looked at MAVLink? For decent range you would need to get your pi a modem.

Re: Internet of Things

Hi T_Wade24 Are you looking to have the webpage on the www or is it only going be on your home network? How about using nodejs to serve up the scoreboard webpage, then you could use nodejs websockets (socket.io) to update the scores. I think that work nicely because the socket server can push new da...

Re: ssh to my home pi through 3G

I run a script that emails the IP to me, it's not ideal, so I'm looking for a solution to this as well.

UART keeps going AWOL

Hi, I've connected a GPS to the UART (rx) on my pi zero w, I can see serial data coming in from the GPS with ... sudo cat /dev/ttyAMA0 and the GPS has a flashing light indicating it has a fix and is transmitting. Something's seems to be breaking the UART connection because one minute it's up and run...

daemonizing node js

Hi, so far I've been running the node app like ... node app.js and that works but the command is blocked and if I log off the pi the app dies. So I'm looking for ways to run it in the background? I found this post and tried to set up a service... sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/myapp.service [Unit] De...

npm git repo

Hi, I've installed npm the right way like this..

Code: Select all

mkdir prj
cd prj
npm init
npm install socket.io --save
npm install serialport --save
but I didn't specify the git repository during init, just left that blank.

Can I add that afterwards? How does it work is there a guide somewhere?

Re: Apache2 and node.js

Well it seems yes you can but since the connection begins with an HTTP polling request, you need to forward any transport=polling HTTP requests in addition to forwarding WebSocket traffic. This apache2 conf redirects websocket traffic to the node server, without redirecting or blocking the RPi-Cam s...

Re: Aldi Talk Webstick (S4222)

Hi Neill, I did the same with a 3 dongle. When I first plug it in, the Pi Zero W thinks it's a USB stick so I did this.. sudo apt-get install ppp wget "http://raspberry-at-home.com/files/sakis3g.tar.gz" sudo mkdir /usr/bin/modem3g sudo chmod 777 /usr/bin/modem3g sudo cp sakis3g.tar.gz /usr/bin/modem...

Apache2 and node.js

I'm drawn to node.js for websockets because I've used it before with help from a really straight forward tutorial but the RPi_Cam_Web-Interface, which is using Apache2, has to be configured to tunnel? the websocket through to sockets.io? Apache serves up the RPi-Cam php pages nicely so now I want ad...

Re: Configuring dhcpcd in Raspbian Stretch

I haven't planned on using the internet, I'm using the AP so I can connect to the pi wirelessly when I'm out of range of my home wifi. /etc/dnsmasq.conf interface=wlan0 domain-needed bogus-priv dhcp-range=192.168.4.8,192.168.4.250,12h /etc/dhcpcd.conf # Example static IP configuration: interface wla...

Re: Configuring dhcpcd in Raspbian Stretch

I got my pi zero w access point kind of working by following this post .. so thanks, I was really struggling until I found that. No internet but I don't need that yet anyway. i set it up headlessly (by copying SSH and wpa_supplicant.conf to the card on a PC). Then I installed hostapd and dnsmasq and...
