Social media engagement

Hi folks, not a criticism but the Astro Pi twitter stream has been much quieter of late and I wonder if the project is running out of steam or just a different attitude to outreach? The winners of this year I presume have been notified etc and I saw a tweet by Martin that Tim Peak is doing one of th...

Certificates missing

Hi folks, got a reply to indicate weren't one of the lucky 10 winners in this years Mission Space Lab and it also had attached a PDF of certificates, but the problem is that it only had 4 of the 6 projects members certificates in it. I've replied to point out the issue yesterday but haven't gotten a...

Concrete Dates for Mission Space Lab? Also template report?

Hi folks, just wondering if the date/time of the Mission Space Lab experiments will announced in advance, either as a group or (being cheeky) as individual projects? Also, delighted about the report stage as it will get the kids thinking about what they learned, but is there a draft temples roughly ...

Numbers from last year?

Hi folks,

delighted to say our project was one of the projects that was accepted today. I can't wait to tell the kids who worked so hard on the project!

I just wondered how many were accepted and ran the last time the competition ran?

Mission Zero Certs? :D

Hi folks, wondering if there was a rough estimation on when the certs will be e-mailed out? Amazing to see it come together and would love to be able to get the kids their certs to celebrate the success of the event! Thanks to Dave, all the astro pi team, esa, trinket and whoever else helped put tog...

Re: Camera Overlap

Dave, I looked at that code and just wondered one thing. It calculates the location and whether there's an overlap and if it matches then it starts camera preview for 5 seconds before capturing the image. My point is with the 5 second camera warm up, have you not missed the boat, or sailed over the ...

Camera Overlap

Hi folks,

one of the ninjas in our CoderDojo has been asking some interesting questions and I'll be honest and say that I'm stumped.

The main question he is asking is concerning the angle of view that the camera has, and how can we ensure that any photos taken don't overlap?

Re: PILlow, PiCamera and rogue readings

Cheers Dave! I'll try it later on, but in the meantime, if capturing pictures in a loop, do you think you should do the preview each time, or is it only for that very first capture? Just wondering how consistent a meter it is if the camera is adjusting to the light each time.

PILlow, PiCamera and rogue readings

Hi folks, getting close to finishing our project for the Space Lab. We're using PIL to calculate the mean brightness of our photos but find that the levels returned tend to be very high for the first picture and do tend to vary under on a theoretically steady light source. We can obviously discard t...

Final Team Members

Hi folks, we were lucky and had two teams submit ideas that were accepted to the second stage of the Space Lab competition, but as we're a CoderDojo and not a school, i.e. people drop in & out, I wondered whether we can add or remove people from the team members that were named in the initial submis...

Re: Use of OpenCV

Wow. Some of those night time images are a challenge. In fact I've not found one yet that makes sense to the human eye :D This is an example of what I mean: https://github.com/astro-pi/enviro-pi/blob/master/iss%20downloads/EnviroPi_20160223_143009.jpg The light from inside the ISS is reflecting off ...

arghhh...forgot to ask, but are there any samples of the images that are captured by the camera from the ISS? Want to calibrate our detection with some real examples.

Re: Use of OpenCV

Hi Dave, thanks again for that response. Just a quick question on versions. Will the latest be used (I think it is 3.3.0) or some other version? Had the joy of installing this the other day on my own pi so want to make sure I install the correct version on the Astro PI we got from you and the ESA. /...

Use of OpenCV

Hi foks, two of our teams were accepted for phase two and both are Life on Earth based projects revolving around capturing images on Pi NoIR and then crunching the images. I wondered whether use of OpenCV is permitted or if there are python resources people are aware of for edge detection, bright sp...

Use of PyEphem

Hi folks, just wondering about the use of PyEphem in the Astro PI. The reading for the TLE is only valid for a period of time, so I wondered, in the depths of space (i.e. no network access) whether there was some way for an up to date reading to the supplied when a 3 hour program was to be kicked of...

Pi with AIY borks after upgrade

Hi folks, I've tried to do the following twice now and with the same end result. I've AIY installed on my Pi and I've simply tried to upgrade to latest underlying Raspbian distro: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade I haven't babysat the install so I'm not sure which package is causing the issu...
