Re: Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) released

Can anybody who has got the 64bit Ubuntu working tell me how the mouse movement is ? I actually use a trackball for the application I'm aiming for and unless the mouse is perfect, the trackball is unusable. I tried Gentoo and it definitely wasn't suitable. OT for this thread - apologies - but if yo...

ronmon, thanks for the nice feedback, glad you're finding the image useful so far ^-^ As Gavinmc42 suggests, you could try increasing the HDMI signal level. You can do this by editing /boot/config.txt directly (relevant options here ), or, perhaps easier, use the bundled pyconfig_gen tool. This may ...

BRX7, although the kernels are auto-built weekly, the gentoo-on-rpi-64bit project's custom profile masks all but certain tested versions (see e.g. this file and this one ), preventing them from being installed. That's because upgrading to a non-booting kernel would be a major inconvenience ^-^ Howev...

Re: Bootable 64-bit Gentoo image for the RPi4 released (Xfce4 desktop)

I have a question - once I have your latest Gentoo running on my Pi 4 4GB, what do I need to do to add ZFS filesystem support? I'm guessing it's easier than trying to bolt it on the side of the official Raspbian release. You need to build a kernel module and a set of userland support tools (as deta...

Ok thanks - I'll give it another go, although I thought it would be up to date as it was a fresh download of everything to a new memory card. The current (v1.5.1) image was released on 2nd September 2019, and ships with a 4.19.67.20190827 kernel . The kernel and boot firmware have been updated seve...

Re: Pi4 64-bit raspbian kernel for testing - Focus on Pi4

On Gentoo64 I have the reverse problem, compiling for 32bit Pi's on Aarch64. Using Buildroot was the first thing that worked for me. Native Arm compiling? Run 32bit compilers on 32bit OS, run 64bit on 64bit OS, that works. Gentoo64 was actually my first port of call for going to 64 bits, but it did...

Re: 64 bit os?

Alternatively, if you want to stay closer to the familiarity of the Raspbian tools, desktop and repos, you might want to take a look instead at my raspbian-nspawn-64 image. This has the (official) 64-bit kernel, an (almost) vanilla Raspbian 32-bit userland, and a 64-bit Debian aarch64 'sidekick' OS ...

Is there a simple way to swap to a gui-less environment without a complete re-installation? Yes - If you simply wish to have a command-line interface, without removing any packages, issue: [email protected] ~ $ sudo rc-update del xdm default and reboot. You'll come up in a CLI. To undo the above, issue...

Re: piRoot: A way to run x86_64 Debian apps on Raspbian

One mystery someone may be able to explain to me - since 'sudo apt-get install qemu-user-static' I can now run any X86 Linux binaries. Eg FASM and FASMARM, outside the chroot piRoot sets up. Why ? Is it that installing qemu-user-static has enabled doing that or is it something which installing and ...

Hello, If you are running the 'lite' version of the gentoo-on-rpi-64bit bootable image, which by default boots to a CLI, it is still pretty easy to set up a simple X11 desktop environment. In fact, since the 'lite' image uses the same custom profile (and hence USE flags etc.) as the 'full' version d...

Hi Sakaki, is this a fully 64-bit Gentoo? I seem to recall a while ago there was a mixed 64- and 32-bit OS, where the 32-bit parts were required due to driver issues.
Yes, it is fully (kernel+userland) 64-bit.

Hi bomblord, since your desired PR (#3203) was merged into rpi-4.19.y upstream, the weekly kernel autobuilds ( here and here ) which ran earlier today, will have picked it up automatically. To use the updated binary kernel packages thus created, you just need to unmask them locally, and then merge, ...
