Re: Updated 64-bit Gentoo Image for RPi3 Released (now also for RPi3B+ and RPi4B)

sakaki stepping down from gentoo-on-rpi-64bit (aka genpi64) maintenance (effective EOL notice) Dear fellow Gentoo and RPi enthusiasts - I am afraid I have some difficult news to share. As some of you already know, the last few months have been very challenging for me in terms of bandwidth, because ...

Re: Tune the current running kernel

Hi charbo, apologies for the extremely slow reply, things have been very hectic at work recently and my Gentoo bandwidth has suffered badly >< The current kernel config can be accessed via /proc/config.gz, but is compiled as a module to save space. To make it available, simply use: demouser@pi64 ~ $...

Re: Problems setting static IP address

Hi gilius,

as K9spud notes, using the NetworkManager applet is probably the easiest way to achieve what you want here.

You can also use the nmcli tool to configure a fixed IP address for an interface from the command line. For some simple examples of its use, please see this script.

Hi gilius, apologies for the very slow reply - things have been extremely hectic at work lately, and I haven't had the same bandwidth for Gentoo stuff as normal >< kodi v18 ships with the genpi64 image already, and is available on the binhost too. However I need to incorporate the patches for V4L2 i...

Hi Gazzy - tbth, things have been a bit crazy at work recently - we have a skeleton staff returned to our (physical) office (which includes me!) and a huge backlog of stuff to get through (remote working having proven not quite so friction-free as hoped). So apologies, I haven't had the same bandwid...

Re: Rust-free options?

ozbird, apologies for the slow reply, been quite a few crazy weeks at work >< I'm not quite sure why you were needing to compile dev-lang/rust; a build of v1.45.2 (amongst others) is available as a binary package (tbz2) on the binhost , so genup should automatically have used that version. Did you c...

Re: Looking to port project to Gentoo

DarkElvenAngel, on the image (assuming it is gentoo-on-rpi-64bit?) you need to ensure users in the i2c group can access I2C devices, and also ensure the i2c_dev kernel module is loaded. This is carried out by the rpi-i2c service, installed and enabled by default. Its ebuild is here . As you can see,...

Re: 64-bit Gentoo Running on RPi4! (First Boot / Proof of Concept)

sHAsHiLx, To find what has dependencies on a particular package, you can use e.g.: demouser@pi64 ~ $ equery depends gtk+ This will usually indicate one or two top level packages (in /var/lib/portage/world), or their USE flags, which are 'pinning' the target package in place. You will then need to re...

Hi Gazzy - basically thunar (and others) are held back because of these deps in xfce4-notes-plugin. Think I'll just drop this plugin for now, which will allow these upgrades (and removal of the last gtk2 USE, with migration to gtk3 in the remaining components not already using it). Will test locally...

I tried to ping another device on the LAN and it didn't work. I changed the location from the UK to the US to the RPI setting, but it didn'...

Hello, if you are using the gentoo-on-rpi-64bit image, I recommend (*) you now switch over to using python:3.7 as your default interpreter , rather than python:3.6 (unless you have a strong reason to stay on 3.6, or use a different slot altogether). Fortunately, both the v1.5.4 and v1.6.0 images alr...

Maximum glxgears fps is constrained by the vblank sync, unless you disable it for that app, as follows: demouser@pi64 ~ $ vblank_mode=0 glxgears The other main constraint is the use of window manager compositing. To get best performance (as noted in the project's readme), turn that off, via Applicat...

Congrats on getting PiOS64 into beta - have been trying it out on a Pi4 over the last few days, looks great! One minor thing (which actually came up in testing the forthcoming 1.6.0 gentoo-on-rpi-64bit release on a Pi4, but happens on PiOS64 too) , is pulseaudio's behaviour with the headphone output...
