Conferencing service

Hi everyone, Can I take the output from the camera and feed it to a company providing a conferencing service? At this stage I haven't chosen a provider and have no idea what they require but just wanted to know if it's possible to use a Pi. Up to now all the ones I have looked at seem to be expectin...

Re: One crontab entry works but not the other

Thought I would check what $DISPLAY was and it's
:0.0 so I altered the line to
30 14 * * 3 export DISPLAY=:0.0; /usr/local/bin/python3.6 /home/pi/BSL/programs/sign-songsRPI.py >>/home/pi/test1.log

and that works. Thanks that's fixed it.

Re: One crontab entry works but not the other

I thought you had spotted the problem so I modified that line to 17 14 * * 2 export DISPLAY=0:0; /usr/local/bin/python3.6 /home/pi/BSL/programs/sign-songsRPI.py and then 17 14 * * 2 export DISPLAY=0:0; /usr/local/bin/python3.6 /home/pi/BSL/programs/sign-songsRPI.py >>/home/pi/test1.log but just ende...

[SOLVED] One crontab entry works but not the other

I have 2 python scripts and each has an entry in crontab 45 6 * * 2 /usr/local/bin/python3.6 /home/pi/BSL/programs/updatevideos.py 55 6 * * 2 /usr/local/bin/python3.6 /home/pi/BSL/programs/sign-songsRPI.py The first one runs without problems but the second doesn't seem to. The first one downloads so...

Re: Is Raspberry Pi capable of replacing 2 wire thermostat

If the 2 wires can be extended to somewhere that would allow power to be run to the Pi then it should be a straightforward matter of setting things up for the Pi to control a relay. Or the Pi could be mounted near the 2 wires to connect them to a relay and power run to it from wherever it's availabl...

Re: Installing wxPython4

Thanks,
I will look at piwheel after I get back home. As I re-installed a fresh 2018-11-13 image I will have to wait to see how it goes.
I see it only supports python 3.4 and 3.5 currently so I will see if the code I have written with python 3.6.4 and wxPython 4.01 will work.

Installing wxPython4

I have installed python3.6.4 alongside python 2.7.12 and python 3.5.4 on one of my Pi3's I have tried several times to install wxPython4 both 4.01 and 4.04 but without success. Each time I have done a clean install of raspian 2018-11-13 but I always get some error or other. I know you will ask what ...

Re: 2 cron jobs 1 runs the other doesn't

I think you have solved the problem for me. As I cannot get to it until next Monday at the earliest I decided to run the cron job on my laptop, first without the export DISPLAY=:0 which failed and then with the extra code in place and it worked. When I get chance to try it out I'll come back and mar...

Re: 2 cron jobs 1 runs the other doesn't

Yes script2 does use gui. I have another thought about this as well. I have a Pi at home which I use as my print server and to play BBC radio stations. I can put all of the needed file structure on it and set up the same cron jobs so then maybe I can find out what's happening.

Re: 2 cron jobs 1 runs the other doesn't

The first file downloads and reads a file I put on the net. It processes that and writes a new file which has contents according to what is in the one on the net in a directory on the Pi. I have already checked and it does write the correct file to the right place because I can cat it and see the ch...

Okay, when I get to the Pi again I will do that. However the script which does run writes a a text file which is later read by the second file. The only places in the second file which do not have the full path are within functions which are not accessed until someone clicks on a button. As I intend...

[Solved]2 cron jobs 1 runs the other doesn't

I have a strange problem which I cannot seem to solve. I am running raspbian stretch with all updates on a remote pi I created 2 python scripts. Okay thanks, I agree that's not the best thing so I will stick with creating a program which doesn't need my password, the ssmtp config file can be set more securely than any python script I can write. Security Because your email password is stored as cleartext in /etc/ssmtp/ssmtp.conf, it is import...

Okay, all I have to do is backup the current one on the pi. I can copy off the laptop and paste directly into the pi so it should be easy enough
I'm guessing it's sendmail.cf
