Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-05-27

Applied this version (flashed eeprom, copied fixup*.dat & start*.elf to the boot fat32 partition). I see the bootloader recognizing my HDD (MSD LUN 0 ...). Takes around 10 seconds, fail, next try, then screen just goes blank, nothing else happens, no boot rainbow. $ sudo parted /dev/sda GNU Parted 3...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 USB mass storage beta (no boot)

Hi, tried to boot from my 5GB Seagate backup plus device. If you have a Raspbian system that boots and runs properly from an SD card, make a backup of it, boot that SD card and try the following. Run rpi-eeprom-update and verify that you have the latest bootloader installed: BOOTLOADER: up-to-date ...

Hi, tried to boot from my 5GB Seagate backup plus device. Created GPT partition table, boot FAT32 partition, LVM system etc. - which works from SD card. Confimed copying the *.elf & *.dat files from the github raspberry pi firmware master. Results: https://ibb.co/xYdQPkt Tried MBR, GPT, FAT16, FAT32...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

It'll be the cost of writing an exFAT module for the VPU from scratch. The one in the Linux kernel can't be used as it is GPL. The initial patch for it was nearly 11,000 lines so it is a lot more complicated than FAT. I don't see the point. boot partition is for boot. Just slice out the partition o...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

since the work in progress, may we ask for ipv6+dhcpv6 support?
I have succeeded with NFSv4 rootfs mount, dhcpv6 boot would let me finally get rid of ipv4 in the network.

Thank you!

Any ETA when to expect PXE and USB/MS boot on PI4? Would appreciate even the ballpark.

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

Unbelievable how people (or bots?) hate the raspberry pi 4 despite so many new things! Nobody is talking about OTG on USB-C (it's opening new possibilities btw ...) Nobody is thinking that 512k of EEPROM onboard may solve other things or even help customizing the boot without the SD Or USB controlle...

Re: Raspbian hw clock reset after reboot

The freshest idea and solution (which works well for me) is to remove ntp daemon (apt-get purge ntp) so the NTP daemon won't confuse systemd. I have just tested it - works fine. pi@meters-host:~ $ timedatectl Local time: Sun 2018-06-10 18:41:01 PDT Universal time: Mon 2018-06-11 01:41:01 UTC RTC tim...

Mount the card to any Linux distro, then update /etc/shadow with your password hash. Google will help youb to calculate the hash of your password.

Raspbian hw clock reset after reboot

Hi, I noticed very weird behavior with Raspbian Stretch (9.0). Preface I decided to "upgrade" the PI and added Witty Pi hat and Power Relay hats. I removed fake-hwclock package to make sure that OS will use the real RTC. I expected system time to be set from RTC, then NTP sync some time, then sync R...

Re: Ethernet PXE boot DHCPv6

@vintozver It seems you would be better advised in pursuing a UBoot-based solution instead of waiting on a new closed bootcode.bin that may or may not materialise. ghans Agree. Unfortunately, I will have to do a pretty big chunk of work there cause current U-Boot patches don't have DHCPv6 + RA + TF...

Re: Ethernet PXE boot DHCPv6

If you used the isc dhcpd server it's possible to base responses off things in the request packet with an if statement, that way you could probably limit it to only send responses if based on certain fields (vendor client id is often a good option) client id and vendor id are the same in these two ...

Re: Booting rootfs via "root=LABEL=" or "root=UUID=" (buildr

Any idea what would need to be done to boot using PARTUUID and an initrd? Generally, udev is built in into initrd, and is responsible for creating /dev/disk/... symlinks. Will need to play with it. I suggest to do some digging by unpacking generated initrd and look at udev rules. When booting w/o i...

[quote="arglebargleAh, you're right, I didn't catch that in my testing. Here's a fun one, using an initrd without switching from root=PARTUUID= to root=UUID= will cause boot to dump you into busybox.[/quote] Correct.
