Re: Porting Android

is it a viable option? (possibly it'd get lost among the video links) We already tried that, they didn't work at all with the Pi. I think there are some differences between the Videocore IV in the Galaxy Y and the one in the Pi. Broadcom will release the drivers anyway eventually, so our best bet i...

Re: Porting Android

Android automatically compiles libegl against bionic, but the default compiled version (libgles_android.so) provides software rendering as far as I understand it. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that we need hardware-specific libraries from here . They are closed-source, so you can't just recompil...

Re: Porting Android

Did you try the disable CONFIG_FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE, mentioned on xda? This will disable the console from the kernel being sent to the frame buffer. It may seem nothing is happening until the system boots.. Yes, I have. Nothing comes up at all. System boots up, everything starts according to 'adb sh...

This is the closest you'll get to a working image for now. You may want to adjust some things in config.txt on the boot partition.

I think someone with knowledge about framebuffers and/or android needs to have a look at this.

Hi, did you ever try or get round to testing the GB build? Could you link me to your current GB build and i'll see if i can contribute in anyway.. Unless some genius creates the drivers for ICS I think thats a dead horse.. no? ICS may not be as dead as it seems. There are patches that will remove t...

Re: Porting Android

Update for the people not following the IRC channel (#androidpi at irc.rizon.net). We are able to boot Android 4.0! There is still one major problem: the framebuffer is interfering with the actual Android interface, making everything unbearably slow and buggy. System UI is crashing too, although the...

Re: Porting Android

Same problem here as Mathijs got earlier. Using a 3.3 kernel, booting fine up to "A N D R O I D" and then processes start crashing, ending with something along the lines of "servicemanager crashed 4 times in 4 minutes" and then trying to go into recovery mode. Why is it crashing though, does Androi...

Re: Porting Android

I narrowed it down to the CONFIG_ANDROID option. Whenever that one is enabled, I get the colour screen. It's in Device Drivers -> Staging -> Android. Its suboptions don't matter. Thanks :) Do you know what actually produces the colour screen? Question: are you try to start a "standard" file system,...

You can find one here:

It's outdated but it should work.

What exactly does the infamous "colour screen" look like? I'd like to check that we're seeing the same thing. http://i.imgur.com/Ib3t1.jpg I narrowed it down to the CONFIG_ANDROID option. Re: Porting Android

Ok, I guess the next step is to use different patches... I'm reading through this guide, maybe it helps: http://elinux.org/Android_on_OMAP#Patch_extraction I didn't use any patches with the 3.5 kernel, just the Android drivers from staging. Still, I got the colourscreen, so I doubt the problem lies...

Re: Porting Android

Thought I'd share my kernel images. They all have the Android options enabled.
3.1.9+
3.3
3.5-rc2

But every image with the needed android patches enabled doesn't boot (colour screen). I tried to compile one without them and that one boots just fine.

Re: Porting Android

Also, from experience I know that Android is split up between different partitions, how will that work on the RPi? I know that there's boot, root, system, and data, how will those mount? I do know that in order to keep file permissions working the .img files can't be extracted and copied to the par...

Re: Porting Android

I used a 3.3 kernel and a filesystem of Android 2.3. I got to the A N D R O I D screen, but then it prints 'untracked pid xx'. Then it tries to go into recovery mode, but this of course fails since it isn't there. Apparently /system/bin/servicemanager crashes 4 times, this may have something to do w...

I tried compiling the rpi-linear kernel (appears to have android drivers in staging), but for the android alarm driver a RTC is needed. The R-Pi does not have a RPC, correct?
