Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Well, and it still locks up. Sometimes it would run flawlessly for a week or two, then lock up every other day. By now I am quite convinced that it must have to do with ethernet somehow. I'll switch to Wifi and see what happens then. I've eliminated everything else by now and software side is being ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

OK, I need to take back what I had said before, and I wish to apologise. After your recent reply, I gave it a last chance, updated and upgraded to the latest Raspbian, including rpi-update, and now, all of a sudden, all my 3B+ are running flawlessly. I don't really know what you fixed and when, but ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Well, I'm really sorry, but here in my scenario the B+ are still not running reliably. It helps to do the rpi-update, but all in all, there has to be at least one bug still hidden somewhere in the drivers. My Model 3B (non-plus) in the basement works completely reliably for months without reboots, s...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

OK so after a few days of testing I found out a few things. With the latest kernels (rpi-update) all the "naked" Raspbian installs are stable, uptime 4 days now. sdram_freq=500. The one machine with Kodi and other stuff installed on it still gave me problems, but that was due to another, completely ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

On the other hand, I've updated again after the most recent lockup (June 4) and since then, no crashes.
I don't know yet if this is simply a rare occurence (several cofactors) or if it's been actually fixed meanwhile.

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Nothing out of the ordinary there... (Except perhaps the shared external USB drive)... [boot] path = /boot guest ok = yes read only = no force user = pi browseable = yes [hd] path = /mnt/usbhd guest ok = yes read only = no force user = pi browseable = yes [nzb] path = /home/pi/nzbget/nzb guest ok = ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

1. Yes, most of the network traffic is at night. 2. No shares, but an USB drive. Several folders on the Raspi are shared via SMB, though. This might be a common denominator, as now I realize this is the case with all 3 machines I am using. Never thought of that before. 3. Will have to check. Right n...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Well, for the past few days (after the most recent rpi-update) I'm experiencing nightly lockups once again. This particular machine is running Kodi, NZBGet and Sonarr, on Raspbian Stretch with PiXel. Connected to one network via Ethernet and another one via onboard WLAN. Connected to USB are a 2 TB ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Mine are all working pretty well now, with the latest rpi-update(s) and keep improving in stability (@original clock speeds!). For now, it seems to me, we'll need to stay on the "bleeding edge" with drivers (rpi-updates) and things will eventually be sorted. Those who use latest Raspbian with latest...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

OK so, the one Pi 3B+ I'm monitoring atm was down from less than 15 minutes after 10:03 this morning, until I cold started it again an hour ago by pulling the plug. There's nothing unusual in the logs. At least not in the "standard" ones (messages, syslog, debug, kern). Some of them seem to be litte...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Anything in the logs? 130h is odd, I would expect frequency related issues to show up much earlier than that, so maybe, as you surmise, still a networking issue in there somewhere. Unresponsive for 4h is also a weird one! I'll wait a little to see if it recovers (it's in lockdown mode right now) an...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

While it's definitely much better after the rpi-update, I've had another lockup last night, after ~130h uptime. I noticed a few "hickups" where the machine becomes completely unresponsive for up to 4 hours and then recovers. This still seems network related to me, and while it's better now, it's not...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Just a datapoint for jamesh -- my ethernet/samba issues were fixed by the rpi-update, however, my ethernet cable was also only 1m long. Uptime here now: 43 hours. sdram_freq=500. No failures since rpi-update. Still occasionally broken pipes on ssh connections, but so far no reboots and, most import...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Possible. If using wired ethernet, how long are the cables you were using? There was a very recent fix concerning long cables. I am using a wired connection on one of the machines, but the cable length (to the switch) is just 1 m and the cable itself is rather new. That one is also connected to ano...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

That's a weird one. Obviously not the same batch, and to have 4 that exhibit the same problem when we in house have difficulty making anything go wrong with random selections of Pi's is very odd. I can only suggest trying RPI update to get the latest settings. Only working at SDRAM 500 is also very...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

Well, I'm affected, too. 4 x Pi 3B+ here, all showing the same symptoms (random lockups overnight). All 4 bought from Amazon.de, 2 sold directly by Amazon, the others by a reseller. Two were bought in April, the others in May (3 weeks later). 1 of them is set up as my media server (connected to TV v...

Re: Current Stretch Image can't be updated...

Well, as it turns out, it looks like I just had bad luck. One of my local mirrors must have had corrupt files. I (again) did apt-clean, this time deleted /etc/apt/sources.list.d/raspi.list, removed all files from /var/cache/apt and /var/cache/apt/archive, then did: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get d...

Re: Current Stretch Image can't be updated...

Thank you for your help! It's very unlikely that the problem lies with my network, as there aren't any problems with my other devices. I've tried using 2 different SD cards, but will try a third one. I newly bought this Raspi, and am using the official power supply. I'll try on another Pi, then. Tha...

Current Stretch Image can't be updated...[solved]

Hi, I am facing sort of a nerve-wrecking problem at the moment with the latest mint, vanilla Raspbian Stretch image. As much as I would love to fix it by myself, way too many hours have gone into this now, but still no joy. Freshly (multiple times now) flashed Full Raspbian Stretch Image (September ...
