Re: Cannot get program to auto-start on boot.

OK, I tried your method and it doesn't work.

At the end of the bootup I get a message:

-bash: /etc/bash.bashrc: line 59: syntax error: unexpected end of file

I have typed it in exactly as you have shown.

Re: PI3D - Use keyboard to open a new 2D "window".

Paddy, Much thanks for your input here.. Unfortunately I'm having difficulty grasping what you have described. :( Do you mind giving me some elaboration? In your first CODE section you define "vals" as a list of color attributes with two additional numeric values grouped with each. The numeric struc...

Re: PI3D - Use keyboard to open a new 2D "window".

Paddy, Awesome sauce, my friend. :) Looking through the code I follow it and shouldn't be difficult to implement into what I've already put together. As for mapping the focus, I've come up with a method as best my skills can derive.. The configuration page is broken down into 4 sections of configura...

Re: PI3D - Use keyboard to open a new 2D "window".

Hi Paddy! Was hoping you'd chime in on this. :) So far what I've done is created a new background that has all of the user configurable data points with little white windows for the values to be placed into. I created textblocks for each of the value options and it is displaying them. I set it up to...

I will make the suggested changes, RaTTus and get back to you. And yes, my application does use the keyboard for configuring the dash.

PI3D - Use keyboard to open a new 2D "window".

Trying to figure out what is going to be the best approach to this with PI3D. In my dashboard application which uses PI3D to display the gauges, needles, etc, I would like to be able to use the keyboard to load a configuration page over all of the gauges/needles and this page will contain all of the...

Re: How do I change the splash screen? RPi3Bv1.2 Jessie

Thank you for the pointer. I installed the Jessie image from this website and with adding the following to the cmdline.txt file

logo.nologo quiet splash

It boots up very cleanly right into my app without any imagery or scrolling lines of boot info.. Nice - and - clean. :)

Re: Cannot get program to auto-start on boot.

Update: There are two references to the .ini file in my program and I had only changed the path to a full path for just one of the calls. After adding the full path to it, the program loads fine now. HOWEVER, I FOUND IN ONLY ONE OBSCURE LOCATION THE FIX TO GETTING JESSIE TO RUN THE RC.LOCAL. The fir...

Re: Cannot get program to auto-start on boot.

OK, I came across a post where the first line of the rc.local has to be changed in order to make it run. WHY this is not automatically done out of the box is a mystery to me, but whatever. So I got it to run. HOWEVER, it will not properly load my program and it appears that it is failing because it ...

Two things I'm loading. I've tried it with and without "sudo" as well.

Code: Select all

sudo pigpiod & #this loads the pigpio daemon
sudo python /home/pi/AshPrograms/gauges-withobd-BoostControl-08.py & #and this is my python program

Cannot get program to auto-start on boot.

Getting a bit frustrated here - I've tried several approaches to get the RPi3 B v1.2 running Jessie to auto-load a python program. I've added it to the /etc/rc.local file at the bottom, just above exit 0. No joy. From the command line I can manually execute the script and it works just fine. I've al...

Re: GPIO for measuring frequency >>

I ended up installing pigpio and taking from the read_PWM.py sample. This works beautifully and does not require threading the process. This approach has vastly improved the tachometer response. Previously I was pulling this information from the engine computer's serial port and unfortunately it has...

GPIO for measuring frequency >>

I have setup my program to read from the GPIO at pin 18 and have configured it and put together a separate thread to run a script to wait_for_edge (rising) in two iterations, marking the time for each event, subtracting them and dividing 1 by the value for frequency. I am reading a cam angle sensor ...

Re: PI3D: Can the size of a Sprite be dynamically changed?

Paddy I want to marry you!

That worked perfectly. I ended up going to 1.5 on the correction (as the display is running 1080 and the image is only 720 high) and it works perfectly.

My God, you are a very powerful wizard! :)

Re: PI3D: Can the size of a Sprite be dynamically changed?

Or, if there is a simpler solution to this that is in PI3D that I am not aware of, that would be great. Can the display size be set in such a way that it will skew the image height of EVERYTHING displayed? The display wants to run 1920X1080 on a native resolution of 1920X720, so when the pi3d imager...

Re: Segmentation Fault

I just recently went through this. In Python, go to Build, Set Build Components. In the Execute entry at the bottom, add "sudo" at the front of the other text in the window to it's right.

Seems that you need superuser privileges to run most programs..

PI3D: Can the size of a Sprite be dynamically changed?

Trying to determine if I need to rewrite my program and use textures rather than sprites for rotating gauge needles. Unfortunately the widebar 24:9 display simply will not run its native resolution and although I can rescale the background, the rotating needle sprites are short in vertical direction...

Re: How do I change the splash screen? RPi3Bv1.2 Jessie

Why you want remove boot things anyway? It doesn't speed up boot, only thing that speed boot by very small marginal is: boot_delay=0 But it might be harmful for SD cards (because they are slow to start), maybe when using SSD or some other HDD. I'm not trying to make it any faster at all. It is plen...

Why does this work for you and not on my system? What exactly did you do change ? PeterO disable_splash=1 in config.txt Does ...

The "rainbow square" is produced by GPU code in "start.elf". It is drawn by the GPU before any of the ARM cores are even turned on. I don't believe it is possible to turn it off without a custom version of start.elf. PeterO Really? Well I can turn it off as I pointed out in my previous post using i...

Yup. My thoughts exactly. I've put that line, checked it three times that it is spelled correctly, and no caps, just as is shown, and still does not work.
