Re: Set up a globally accessible secure server

You may consider using NextCloud, the beauty of it is it do auto-sync on your designated folders. NextCloud is a web application, that means you need to setup a LAMP server. Add SSL by Letsencrypt to secure it. Install Nextcloud is something like installing a wordpress or joomla website. Very easy t...

Re: Migrate 64GB card to 32GB!

Since you are running Raspbian, recent versions come with an SD card Copier utility in the Desktop menu that might be what you need. (Of course, you will need to have less than 32Gb of active content on the source card.) Discussed in this blog post from the Raspberry Pi Foundation: https://www.rasp...

Re: Remote unlock cryptroot via SSH (bug?) on RPi zeroW

Well it sounds like the root cause of the problem is that the Pi3 has an ethernet port and the Pi0 has not. But I think you knew that already. Since I'm curious in general.. - Is this running with the standard kernel ? - And the complete root partition is encrypted ? yes, I use 2018-04-18-raspbian-...

Re: Remote unlock cryptroot via SSH (bug?) on RPi zeroW

For reason still unknown to me, the initramfs of zeroW does not carry the module r8152 (for net chip on my usb dongle), which I thought it should be inherited when initramfs.gz is created. (Is it DTB related?) So, to get zeroW work, just edit file /etc/initramfs-tools/modules, append r8152 run sudo ...

Re: Remote unlock cryptroot via SSH (bug?) on RPi zeroW

Including links to the guides you follow are crucial for us to even try to understand what you are trying to do and what you have done to your system. If for example the kernel-module needed to set-up the USB network card is on the (encrypted ?) root-filesystem then its no wonder you are in a kind ...

[solved w Q] Remote unlock cryptroot via SSH on RPi zeroW

I followed couple of know how on google and did it successfully on RPi3. However, I failed when repeating the whole process on zeroW. On serial console of RPi3's case, I can see a dropbear shell when it is awaiting for remote unlock. However, on serial console of zeroW, I see the following [ 4.05624...

Re: How-to: AP+wifi client on Zero W with Stretch Lite

Thanks SurferTim, Tested and confirm that channel# (of hostapd) will now switch and match automatically no matter where you go. I believe it is an improvement made on Stretch. About the dhcpcd service, as it is doing its work anyway, I guess there is some minor bug on "/etc/network/interfaces(.d)". ...

How-to: AP+wifi client on Zero W with Stretch Lite

Just re-test it on a fresh raspbian installation today. Different people like to handle stretch's /etc/network/interfaces(.d) in different way, not sure where is more "forgiveness" to change, I can only tell that the following combination works. Please feel free to share your experience. I use seria...

Re: [Solved] Cannot SSH to zero w AP thru ip of hostapd

It is the hostapd service that causes the fail with Lite. If I disable the hostapd service, wlan0 will associate with the ap. When I enable it again, wlan0 fails to associate with the ap. dmesg shows brcmfmac: brcmf_cfg80211_add_iface: iface validation failed: err=-16 It works fine with the Stretch...

Re: [Solved] Cannot SSH to zero w AP thru ip of hostapd

@coopi: Are you using the full version or the Lite version of Stretch? I'm testing with a RPi3 in anticipation of the arrival of my Zero W tomorrow. I have no problem with the full version, but apparently there is a network difference between them. The full version, even booting to a CLI, works. Th...

Re: [Solved] Cannot SSH to zero w AP thru ip of hostapd

You do not need to use the same channel in hostapd as the wifi client. I use channel 7 in hostapd.conf, but that is just the initial (boot) frequency. My Mikrotik wireless router uses channel 4. Almost immediately after the RPi wlan0 interface connects to my Mikrotik router's ap on channel 4, the R...

@SurferTim run "$ iw list" and check the last part of the long output. Re: [Solved] Cannot SSH to zero w AP thru ip of hostapd

Mine doesn't have a problem with different channels on the client. Just tested it. I wonder, so I test. It does not work. I use a spare tf card, fresh install latest raspbian lite. I use my tomatousb router to monitor live connectivity of wlan0. Instead of reboot twice, I did much more times. I fou...

Re: [Solved] Cannot SSH to zero w AP thru ip of hostapd

If you set up the AP as I posted in the other thread, the dhcpcd service would not fail. Mine is a zero w. To get AP and wireless client work together, I need them use the same channel. As channel# varies from hotspot ro hotspot, I have my hostapd.conf file be built (by script) during boot so as to...

@coopi: Post a link to the setup you are using, or what you are trying. Normally dhcpcd service will fail if you put anything like "iface wlan0" in /etc/network/interfaces. Okay, just for reference cause it is not directly relevant to the topic I think. I have auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto wl...

Re: How to setup static eth0 and dhcp wlan0 on stretch?

Quite some people face the same problem that Stretch' dhcpcd does not handle fix ip well this days. I have just built an Access Point (uap0, need fix ip itself) + wireless client (wlan0, get ip from router) on my zero w. As a temporary fix, I only put wlan0 in /etc/network/interfaces and have ip com...

As of today (Oct 15, 2017), it does not work. It does! You are right. I just burn another TF card for merely conducting a fresh test. It works. Just a tips for late comers. Create the ssh file in the small partition, the first partition, which is the real /boot and not the mount-point /boot in the ...

Re: Headless first time connection ssh connection refused

As of today (Oct 15, 2017), it does not work. Adding a file named "ssh" only enable the ssh daemon. However, current version of Raspbian (stretch) remove all network devices (e.g. eth0, wlan0) from the file /etc/network/interfaces; and leaving the directory /etc/network/interfaces.d empty too. Mine ...
