Re: VW Pi
2) Have you got the touchscreen working? If so, how? I don't mind learning if someone could point me in the direction of some reading about installing custom drivers, etc. I'm just completely bemused, there seems to be tonnes of information out there but I haven't found a starting point. Im kind of...

Re: VW Pi
Are you sure that the RasPi will need an amp? Isn't the factory amp separate from the stereo? I seem to remember it being under the seat or something. Also, you're going for a lot of functionality that i just dont care about. I don't need the handsfree calling or the am/fm radio, so that simplifies ...

Re: VW Pi
Well, your idea is cool and it would probably work pretty well. The touchscreen is an integral part of my plan though. Capabilities I want when i install or in the future: -Movies -Visuals for audio.. also maybe album art? -on screen diagnostic ("track apps" type of thing) -backup camera -...

Re: VW Pi
nice! My setup will be fairly straightforward, once i get this touchscreen working. Using the schematics I posted above, I'll easily be able to tap into the power lines that were originally running to the radio, and control the power to the pi. =] i just won't have am/fm or a cd player anymore. but ...

depending on the distribution you might have something like that. debian wheezy says that.samuelellis wrote:..perhaps it may be worth having some sort of note above the command prompt saying "Type startx to load GUI" or something like that

Re: General Observations
Yea one of its purposes is to be an educational aid. Not the entire curriculum! There are myriad resources all over the internet and physical publications about every distro of linux, and tons of basics that apply to all. Did you really buy an RPi and not expect to have to tinker and figure stuff ou...

I have followed the instructions but when I try to start with typing sudo OpenELEC my monitor goes black and nothing else happens. :?: Unfortunately I have the same issue? Does the standalone version of OpenELEC or RaspBMC does work for any of you that have the black screen problem? yup, the first ...

Re: VW Pi
They do have a complete assembled unit, but the only difference between the $200 i spent and the $300 their thing costs, is I bought the screen and bezel separate. The screen is still pre-assembled.
EDIT: (actually supposedly the screen i bought is brighter. it definitely doesnt disappoint!)

Re: VW Pi
I did have a look into it , and I think you should be able to rebuild the modules on the Pi. The instructions are provided and should help you (esp. "How to build the kernel module") OpenELEC you can still SSH into though, to access a terminal. You may not have to build XBMC in Debian... ...

Re: Drivers for USB touch panel interface?
i have a 7" touch screen as well (TouchKit), and it definitely doesn't work plug-n-play on my pi running OpenELEC. I was wondering if I would have luck if I switched to debian and ran openelec from there, but sounds like thats a no go?
