Update: in the public interest

Public Interest update. Those interested in the continued charitable and commercial success of RaspberryPi products, and of the welfare of the registered-charitable Foundation that owns the rights to them, may care to be informed by this layman's updated report on advice received. 1. The Foundation ...

In the public interest: My error?

I now think I was wrong at the time to accept the statements by others in these forums that PiHut was free to refuse to sell RaspberryPi goods to persons in any region or country of its choosing. Culpable also are all those who believed them. Not only PiHut, but all commercial retailers of Raspberry...

In the public interest

The first intention of this message is to draw particular attention for those who do not know, as I did not myself until I needed to look, to some of the requirements the Government has of the RaspberryPi Foundation, the effects of which filter down to all Raspians and members of the public which it...

Raspi3 & infra-red camera performance

Has anyone got pictures showing wide-angle night-vision use of a Raspi 3 with the latest camera, please? We need a pole-mounted wireless-networked night security system which we'd like if possible to get by using small solar panels to charge batteries during daylight hours and would appreciate gener...

Safe arrival of Raspi 3's in Belize

Thank you to the kind volunteer who used Royal Mail's consitently safe and reliable tracked postal service to ship two Raspi 3's to Belize. As always, in our experience over many years, Royal Mail again demonstrated its timeous delivery efficiency. The new units are now in operation at our charity. ...

Re: Unjustified sales embargo belize?

I suppose a business not shipping to some areas could be considered a 'sales embargo'. There is probably not a lot anyone can do about that unless some law or treaty requires a business to ship to that area. Agreed, individuals have small persuasive powers. Gandhi began that way, but eventually per...

Re: Unjustified sales embargo belize?

I'll start deleting posts if they get any more provocative. First and last warning. Evidence is important. The fact the PiHut do not sell to Belize is, I suppose evidence that they don't sell to Belize (as well as many other places). But this is their prerogative. They can sell to whomsoever they w...

Re: Unjustified sales embargo belize?

Googling is a start, but why not go to the horse's mouth and ask them? Have those not willing to believe PiHut would be so crass actually visited their website, and looked? Seems not. You don't think they give any prominence to it, do you, of course not, but if you do bother to find out, it is ther...

Re: Unjustified sales embargo

probably nothing to do with a "sales embargo". I made your text a bit readable, one long block of ranting text nobody reads, now perhaps some will. Regrettably, it has everything to do with a sales embargo. I began by trying to buy more for our charity here, from PiHut, for posting to Belize. Then ...

Unjustified sales embargo belize?

Please bear with the long message that follows. Your Raspi support is badly needed. To see the overwhelming evidence of the intention of RaspberryPi users to go out of their way to be supportive and as helpful as possible to fellow users, we have only to read the messages in these forums. In the pas...

Re: tkinter spinbox display size

Yes, thanks, I'd already changed the font but the width of the up and down arrows remained too small, while the height of those arrows, as you say, increased. I really need/want to increase the width of the arrows and if you know HowTo, I'd appreciate a lesson as good as the font one. :-)

tkinter spinbox display size

Update: I have found out accidentally how to increase the height of the spinbox, by specifying a larger font size, but still need to findout how to increase the width of the up and down arrows. This is a bit better, but needs more tlc. I am developing a python script using successive displays of tki...

BBC radio player via inernet

I can listen to radio4 and overseas service using iceweasel on Raspi from http://bbcradio4.radio.net etc. The overall quality is very reasonable, but it does not come up to the overal usability of BBC's own radioplayer facilities, on Windows, again using Firefox. For instance, on the Raspi, I can't ...

So it does, thank you. 'GMT+6' in one place actually meaning 'GMT-6' in another rather confused my geriatric mind.

raspi-config time wrong?

Re: Onewire Library for avrdude for DS18B20 temp sensor????

pmfji, I can't help with doing this with an arduino but I did a quick-and dirty script using the 'Adafruit' method (see their tutorials?) which reports the serial numbers of up to two DS18B20's and what temperatures they are measuring. No doubt this can easily be increased. I call it 2probes.py impo...

Breaking out of a 'while' loop using tkinter button command

I'm far from being a python tyro but repeated searches on the internet have not thrown up a solution. The code works but for the 'Quit' button(s). The script is used to turn on and off a heater in a river-water boiler using a SSR, and to measure the temperature of the rising vapours using DS18B20 pr...
