Code: Select all

root ~ # touch /var/lock/xbmc.disabled
root ~ # killall -9 xbmc.bin
When you want xbmc back just delete /var/lock/xbmc.disabled - xbmc will respawn and you don't need to restart system.
Thank you; this is a more elegant solution than I assumed there would be :)

Re: Cooling Ram + CPU

What about submerging in mineral oil?
There are no moving parts (which prevented submerging towers), and if you really wanted to, you could extend the SD Card slot so that it's sitting outside the oil.

Entirely overkill, of course, but this seems like the right thread for that. :)

Re: OpenELEC Testbuilds

Does anyone know how to stop the XBMC process from running until the next reboot?

I'm working on some ideas for the library, and want to rsync the thumbnails. All the speed I get get is appreciated :)

(Note: kill <pid> simply causes it to start xbmc again)

Re: Streaming media over LAN from RasPi?

In working with a growing video database for a number of years, owning an ipad, iphone, laptop, and now RasPi, as well as sharing media to a bunch of different devices (low power computers, game consoles, etc), I can speak with confidence when I propose a shift in thinking: What you want is a beefed...

Re: Analog Audio XBMC low volume AC3

If XBMC does not use ALSA, what does it use?

I think that a hack to tell XBMC to process the the front channels (adding the centre channel to both sides) and output just that to left and right stereo would go a long way towards fixing the volume issues, especially the loss of voice issues.

Re: OpenELEC Testbuilds

Further, r11514 using the bootcode.bin, loader.bin, and start.elf included in r11535 also works. Okay, so it wasn't me that broke it. Guess it's Stephan, or something from upstream. Are you sure a change isn't making HDMI audio get enabled? That is known to kill composite video output. If there's a...

Re: OpenELEC Testbuilds

dom; Gathering more in depth info now, but I've been testing along the same lines. <=r11514 = works >=r11520 = broken (tested as far as r11535) This is without changing the firmware files (which I likely updated right from raspberry's github when the issue started, but I'm not sure) Further, r11514 ...

Re: OpenELEC Testbuilds

Is anyone else having issues with NTSC through the rca connector? I just updated from r11493 to r11531, rebooted, and had a scrambled signal immediately after the Openelec logo. Went back to r11528, r11524, r11520. All exhibiting the same issue. Will continue more testing (including going back to 11...

Re: Raspberry Pi as Time Machine for OSX Lion?

The question is: where is it mounted read only? I didn't notice a specific OS choice in your posts, but basically: If you ssh into the raspi, then: -verify that you know the folder that the share is using -check the permissions and ownership of the folder (ls -la) -check the permissions and ownershi...

Re: Raspberry Pi Cooling system? :D

With people pushing the Raspi to it's edge, it occurs that this is very likely the perfect time to revisit submerging.. With no moving parts, one could easily make a sealed case (or open top if you want to test it out) that is filled with mineral oil, and heat-conductive on the outside. (Balls to th...

Re: Order and Shipping update from RS & Allied

I just ran across something that raises a red flag: Is there a duplicate order? or am I potentially being double-billed with no option to sort it out quickly enough to get in on this batch? Squeaky wheel gets the grease: it showed up at my door from RS 15min ago. EXCITE! Looks like this batch is in...

Re: Order and Shipping update from RS & Allied

I just ran across something that raises a red flag: I got on the list through newark, and on May 25th, I was able to order through the activation code that was sent to my email. At this time, my credit card (prepaid) was charged. ( order # 36933 ) Now, I just got a notification from newark that they...
