Password

I power on my pi and immediately get the start screen i.e. blue with 2 whitelines. If there is no activity for say 1/2 hour, it asks for a .password. The first line user's name already has pi in it. When I key in the password as Raspberry, I get an error; I tried Raspberrypi, Admin etc. no luck. I t...

Thanks, it connects now. For some reason pi (ip 192.168.2.16) does not show up on fing; other devices show up but not pi. I tried pinging from my smart phone and it does not work

Screen Size

I have an Emerson Monitor with HDMI Input. When I connect my Dell computer with Windows 7, the full pic does not display on the monitor. The vertical and horiz edges get cropped. It works OK on my other monitor with no HDMI.

Re: smart phone

Thanks.
Not sure where to start. You say there are apps in the app store for clients i.e. PI, smartphone. Some app names to start the process would be helpful.

Re: PI Strange behaviour

Tried it - no luck! The PI does not appear in wireless client list. Did it with the inverted commas i.e. ssid="My network SSID" & similar for the password key

PI Strange behaviour

My PI works fine at home. I stay away from home for the work week and there it does not work. The only difference is that @ home, there are 4 devices on the router. Away, there are about 8 - some connected some not. When I try PI there, it turns on with the red and green lights but does not show up ...

Re: vnc

I connected PI directly to my router with ethernet cable; my computer is connected to my router by WIFI. I access my router using 192.168.0.1 and get: 192.168.0.5 14ABF06FCC84 14:AB:F0:6F:CC:86 Cable 2018-02-06 10:20:21.00 192.168.0.2 083E0CF5FB6A 08:3E:0C:F5:FB:6A Ethernet 2018-02-06 10:20:52.00 1...

Re: remote VNC

Thanks.
I am away from my PI (200 MILES), so this won't work. Before leaving home I set my PI on @ home with VNC enabled. Now from remote I try to access it from my laptop using VNC - can't. Before I could do it (though not always).

remote VNC

I hooked up my PI at home with VNC. Now away from home and tried to connect using WAN IP - no luck! It did work before but not consistently.

Re: vnc

Thanks - especially to the last 2 posters for their patience. I did manage to use putty and get to RPi after reading your posts. So, it works now with the old RPi.
Only doubt I have is: I also used the NOOBS PI and d'loaded raspbian to it but it still did not work

Re: vnc

sudo apt install realvnc* Job done. You can get realvnc-vnc-server to start at bootup and that means you can always connect to raspberrypi.local:5900 with a RealVNC client. Sounds good. Not sure how to do this i.e. how to get vnc-server to start at bootup. A step-by step instruction would be really...

Re: vnc

Tried but got same error msg that host does not exist (posted 3 days earlier) Then you are probably trying to connect to the wrong device. I have only 1 device i.e. RPi connected to my router. I then tried with the new PI I got with the NOOBS installed but to my surprise could not find VNC on this....

Re: vnc

I am using an SD card with NOOBS but in the host name of Putty, I put in pi@raspberrypi.local. This is because I don't know the IP address of my PI as it does not show up when I login to my router. My PI connects directly to the router with an E'net cable

Re: vnc

You can't use NOOBS if you want to run headless. NOOBS is just an installer, it's not an OS. Follow my instructions above to create a Raspbian SD card with SSH enabled, and then you'll be able to turn on the VNC service as well. Tried but got same error msg that host does not exist (posted 3 days e...

Re: vnc

Yes, running headless. VNC is enabled on my laptop but how to enable it on PI as it is running headless? 1. Remove the SD card and put it back into your (Windows) laptop. 2. Open notepad the go to save as and save the file with filename ssh or ssh.txt (You don't have to type anything into the file)...
