Re: minicom for rangefinder

I presume you have disabled the kernel and OS from using the UART on the GPIO pins. Hmmm...I presume you are using the UART on the GPIO pins. Yes, I am using the UART. The OS is disabled from using the UART as well. The big problem is lack of consistent readings, every now and then a good reading t...

Re: minicom for rangefinder

Check the following: Voltage levels. Correct, 5v into a Pi is a bad idea. With a good ground connection of course. Baud rate. Number of character bits. Number of stop bits. 9600 Baud rate, 8 character bits, no parity, one stop bit. The output should be the ASCII character RXXXX, where XXXX is the r...

minicom for rangefinder

I am trying to use a Maxbotix 7386 and 7076 acoustic sensor (not at the same time) with Minicom on my Pi 3. I now have the Pi seeing the sensor, but Minicom is giving a whole bunch of garbage data, and only randomly displaying the range. The 7076 needs to run through an inverter first. The Pi was no...

Re: is serial port dead

It helped. I copied it over to an rtf file, then saved it on the Pi as a .py file. After removing all the \par that were added and some extra code at the beginning, I guess from converting from .rtf to .py, it worked. At first it said it got invalid data, but I ran it again and it received the data ...

Re: is serial port dead

I guess there could be, but I am totally new to Python. My coding experience has been C and Java, and not too much of either of those, one college class for C, two for Java. I have a beginner's book for Python and Raspberry Pi, but he doesn't cover the GPIO pins very much, just in one of his project...

is serial port dead

I am trying to hook up an acoustic sensor to my Pi 3's serial input pin, but it does not see the sensor. The sensor's manufacturers say to use minicom, but when I open minicom, it sees no input. The voltage at pin 10 (15, depending on which numbering system you are using), is reading 0.15 V. My TxD ...
