Re: multi homed RPi?

I have roughly 6 clients (ESP8266). Each client assigned a separate name. They can Subscribe and Publish to MQTT. Each client can do "whatever" based on the MQTT message. Some are simple LEDs based on presence detection. The rest are temp sensors throughout my house.

Re: New Pi Zero W configuring with specific MQTT IP address

I Condensed the code for ease of use: Confirmed (05-19-20) it works flawlessly! Setting up a Raspberry Pi Zero W as a STAND-ALONE Access Point -INSTALL THE ACCESS POINT AND NETORK MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE In order to work as an access point, the Raspberry Pi needs to have the hostapd access point softwar...

Re: New Pi Zero W configuring with specific MQTT IP address

Dougie or whomever; Well, I finally got some time off from work to play on my Pi Zero W My 1st go at it failed. Not sure what happened. The IP address I assigned was not the same as the one I typed in. This time I'm backing up as I go along. If I added or made a change even ever so minor. I rebooted...

Re: New Pi Zero W configuring with specific MQTT IP address

Thank you for your understanding..

I'm going to try the stand-alone version (Routed) since the Pi Zero W does not have an ethernet port. Did I get that right?

I was able to copy my sd card, in case I F-it-up again. So now, I don't have to reformat, reload and reconfigure when I do.

Here we go!!!

Dougie;
Is this post still valid when running "Buster" on a Raspberry Pi Zero W?

Starting with an un-modified copy of Raspbian Jessie and the instructions "just worked™" for me.

Re: New Pi Zero W configuring with specific MQTT IP address

Dougie; I hope you're still on here. My Grandson passed away shortly after my last post. I've put this project off for a year, trying to piece my life back together. Referencing my last post was a link to creating my raspberry pi zero w as an access point. That link is no longer valid. I have some q...

How to backup a Pi Zero W - Beginner instructions?

Raspberry Pi is not entirely new to me but I still consider myself a newb. I just installed Buster with desktop preinstalled version to my Pi Zero W. I got everything as I want. Now I want to make a backup before I make it a stand-alone access point for my project. That way if I screw it up again, I...

Can you elaborate on the "supplied sd card copier tool"?

How to... or send me a link that describes how.

Thanks!

Re: Can I Copy SD Card To Set Up New Raspberry Pi?

I used win32disk imager to put the files on the sd card, run Raspbian Buster. I got things going the way I want but want to set it up as a standalone Access Point. Before I do that... I want to make a backup so I don't have to start from scratch, just pick up where I'm at now in case I screw it up. ...

Got it, Thanks. Just a matter of downloading from the wrong directory.

Plugged it into my Pi Zero W. Desktop loaded just fine. I Will update as I make progress loading Mosquitto and Make it into a Stand alone Access Point.

Hi guys. It's been almost a year since I've been here. Death in the family hit me hard! I had a power surge from a lightning storm last May. My Pi Zero W stopped working. I think the sd card was corrupted. I see there's a Raspberry Pi Imager [https://downloads.raspberrypi.org/imager/imager.exe] that...

New Pi Zero W configuring with specific MQTT IP address

Sorry guys, I only seem to log in when I get myself in trouble. Hahaha I've had my Pi Zero W running MQTT server 24x7 since they 1st came out. Love it! Last year, our facility got hit by lightning and fried my 1st Pi Zero W. I created a new server on a new board. In doing so, it assigned a different...

Re: Which operating system for Pi Zero W as access point, MQTT only

Bensimmo; I tried that, It didn't work. I probably had an unseen typo. Anyway. It was a bit more effort to change the IP address of all the sensors, but I did and all is back to working. I'm going to do some testing out doing a backup of the SD. Next time it happens I should just be able to pull out...

Re: Which operating system for Pi Zero W as access point, MQTT only

Well damn! I find it easier to just pull out the ESPs and modify the sketch and plug them back in.
I guess I'll be toting a laptop and screwdriver around.
Frustrating but least difficult!

Re: Which operating system for Pi Zero W as access point, MQTT only

Just to try out a theory to make sure it's working correctly. I changed the sketch on one ESP8266 sensor so that the MQTT server IP was the same as the new Pi Zero W when I type ifconfig // Connect to the WiFi const char* ssid = "PiCharts"; const char* password = "Espressif"; con...

Re: Tutorial for MQTT on Raspbian Jessie?

Hello guys. I need help once again. My Pi Zero W fried the other day due to a lightning storm. I got it all back up and running on another Pi Zero. All but the MQTT address. I need to assign the IP address of the MQTT server. Now loaded via Raspbian stretch. My Ardiuno Sketch from 2017 shows it logs...

Re: Which operating system for Pi Zero W as access point, MQTT only

Dang. The sensors all have the MQTT IP address. they sit there doing nothing until connected. So I need to figure out how to assign the MQTT address. I obviously did this before and poor documentation on how I did it. Will have to document it well this go around.

Re: Which operating system for Pi Zero W as access point, MQTT only

I'm on the line adding a static IP address. is that where the MQTT address comes from?

interface wlan0
static ip_address=192.168.4.1/24
nohook wpa_supplicant

I don't want to go any further until I can confirm.

Thanks
