Re: VNC problems when wif-fi signal lost

HI Matt Thanks for the comments... Darn thing just reset itself! - sitting right here on the bench..... (good strong wi-fi signal) So - dodgy psu? I've seen the same behaviour with two separate psu's - both rated 2.5A - Faulty Pi? It's a possibility. I've 2 x 3b's and one PiZero here. I seem to reca...

Is it possible that your Pi is simply resetting itself when your not looking at it?
Rebooting, you mean?
It's possible - but why would it do that..?

Re: VNC problems when wif-fi signal lost

Are you running your Python prog via some autostart method? If so - stop it and run it manually from a terminal You should then see the error on the screen when it fails I was running it from a shortcut on the main menu. I left it running on the bench this afternoon when I went out for a few hours ...

Re: VNC problems when wif-fi signal lost

So - if you start a python script via a VNC-connected gui, and the wi-fi connection then drops, does the RPi kill the program? The Pi won't kill the program but if the program needs/expects WiFi to be running then it could cause it to error out and stop OK - thanks. Is there any kind of diagnostic ...

VNC problems when wif-fi signal lost

HI Question - if you were running a python script on an RPi headless (via VNC / wi-fi) - what would you expect to happen if the wi-fi connection was lost for a short period of time? Background. I have a python script that logs temperature vs time in a glass-fusing kiln (which is in an outside worksh...

Re: RPi 3 / VNC / lockup after 30 hours running

Hi Folks Update - 38 hours later.... test program still running fine. Memory showing 114Mb out of 927. It's perhaps unfair to accuse Idle of having a 'Memory leak' - I guess if it's creating a logfile of activity to allow the user to trawl back and investigate a problem then that logfile has got to ...

Re: RPi 3 / VNC / lockup after 30 hours running

Interesting - looks as if running the script though Idle (which I was) causes a slow increase in memory usage Mem used at the start of running the program was 238Meg After 4 hours, was up to 368 Meg. Could this behavour eventually cause the Pi to run out of memory and hang? Say (368-238) / 4 = 32 me...

Re: RPi 3 / VNC / lockup after 30 hours running

.......... On the test that I'm running now, I've changed the VNC Server idle timeout from 3600 to 0 - but I'm not holding my breath... .... That will keep VNC from disconnecting after 1 hour. Try running top and monitor memory usage. Thanks for the reply. Yes - I didn't think that the VNC timeout ...

RPi 3 / VNC / lockup after 30 hours running

HI Folks I'm trying to use an RPi for monitoring temperature in a glass-fusing kiln, using the MAX31855 and the Adafruit 'simpletest.py' code as a test rig. I've previously had a setup with my own code, which worked well, displaying a graph of time vs temperature, which I could view remotely using V...

Re: Pi3 problems after update

Sometimes new configuration files are installed, overwriting old ones. When that's done the old files are usually backed up to a folder called oldconffiles or something like that. It's possible that some configuration change you had previously made was lost when the update replaced the configuratio...

Re: Pi3 problems after update

I'm guessing that the /dev/root is a problem? Yes, 99% used. What you see is typical for low disk space. 5.6G is not a lot for full fat Raspbian GUI. Can you uninstall / purge some large applications like wolfram? Probably - I don't use it... Could you guide me as to what to type in terminal (befor...

Pi3 problems after update

HI I've been developing some software on my RPi3 for a while.
