Re: [Kinda SOLVED] Custom camera module for CM3+: cables and crypto chip

Just a quick sum up: I've managed to use a minDP <--> miniDP cable to connect a custom pcb Camera Board (v.1.3 at the moment) to a CM3+ (Compute module 3+) with a breakout board and a symmetrical miniDP socket. As per the schematics of camera module v1.3, since they are not officially available, I'v...

[SOLVED] Re: Custom camera v1.3PCB board for CM not really working

Ok.. I've rechecked everything and.. very simply I had mismatched the data lanes/clock lanes etc... after careful rechecking and rewiring, it works as you can see from these pictures. IMG_7095.jpeg Moreover signal travels from CM to camera module via a standard miniDP cable. IMG_7097.jpeg And I can ...

Re: Custom camera v1.3PCB board for CM not really working

Hi Amornthep, one difference I see from your schematics and mine is regarding the signals and power input that (in your schematics to RUBY_OV5647_B) go to the camera (or camera module). I can see all the logical signals but i can see several different power going there 1V5 1V8 2V8 3V3 whereas my PCB...

Re: Custom camera v1.3PCB board for CM not really working

Thanks Amornthep, the camera you dseigned seems very interesting. But if I get it right, you don't use the small connector that binds the camera to the socket on the camera module, instead you just use the camera sensor in your PCB. And this, at the moment, is too much complicated I fear. Or maybe n...

Re: Custom camera v1.3PCB board for CM not really working

Hello, i am a bit worried about numbers being the opposite.. but if you sai this is correct.. another try Ive done is to revere 180 degrees the sunny+camera: raspivid spat out a terrible error, even worse than the usual one, so I tend to agree with you, even in my ignorance. I2C seems to work I use ...

[SOLVED] Custom camera v1.3PCB board for CM not really working

Hello, at last I've got my shipment from China with my custom camera board for camera v1.3. Why 1.3? Because it looked simpler to design and cheaper to but. Anyway, I've connected everything and tested: 3V3 arrives at the board the oscillator generates a steady 25Mhz clock two LDOs generate 2V8 and ...

Re: thinner/flusher connector for SODIMM and CM3+

msl, regarding customs, twice I've payed around 70 € for custom clearing (custom fees?) to DHL. Then I've asked the support at PCBWay to declare the true value of the good, that is a few bucks for the PCB and a few for the components, or even less.. truth is apart from manual work and surcharge, the...

Re: thinner/flusher connector for SODIMM and CM3+

Hi, I understand. at PCBWay they do plenty of connectors (even fine pitched like the camera socket and with fine THP pins as the miniDisplayport at bottom) and pretty small compos with very close spaced pins (see unsoldered U2 on bigger board, which I suspected had a brigde). They can do also electr...

Imperf3kt hello,

well yes. I can imagine it, but talking about a Compute Module.. i wanted a socket that enables mating the PCB and the Compute module horizontally at the same level.. me neither I don't know the term to search for.
Thanks,

Re: thinner/flusher connector for SODIMM and CM3+

Hi msl, I usePCBWay, they are pretty decent and can solder also something with tiny connectors. I suspect once they made a bridge over a very small form factor SOT-6 chip, but since I don't have a microscope I cannot be sure. Their customer care is pretty efficient even though sometimes writing with...

Re: thinner/flusher connector for SODIMM and CM3+

Hi msl, Thanks for the info on connector. Actually after some years learning how to solder (and not being very good at it) I've discovered that assembly in China is cheaper and more precise than what I can achieve. Time is a little bit longer i know, but the result is way better. So unless they are ...

Hi msl! thanks, I've read the thread you posted. Looks very nice and 14mm is not too thick for me. Could you suggest the SODIMM 200 connector that you used? I am still not sure about the screen size but I doubt it will be more than 5". What are you using? Is it something low power and high visibilit...

Hello msl, yes I see that the CM has a the BCM soc sticking a little high. To be honest i think I could work also with a CM normal but I relaly don't know. Re: thinner/flusher connector for SODIMM and CM3+

Andy, of course i will need to find something. aBUGSworstnightmare, hello again. Yes I can see low profile connector, but they are always (correct me if wrong) built in such a way as to have the Module on top of the board, and allowing for a bit of space between them, it's a lot of millimeters. thinner/flusher connector for SODIMM and CM3+

Hello, I am designing a carrier board for the CM3+. The obvious choice is to go with the same connector that is on the Dev Board or something similar, but I was wondering if there was a way to make the resulting carrier board + CM slimmer. For example I've seen many video/usb connector that are sold...

As a complete test: I've tested with my simple miniHDMI/HDMI camera adapter, with both camera modulev2 and v1.3. It totally works! And as 6by9 told us, the pullups works also with V2.. Now since I don't like miniHDMI I'm testing with miniDP.. (truth is, I've not found cables with miniHDMI on both en...

dear 6by9, you are the best! IMG_6396.jpg as you can see, as soon as I soldered up a couple 4k4 ohm resistance ( i don't have a 4k7, just some 2k2 in series) and connected some 3v3 Pins to GPIO 28 and 29.. voila!! it works!.. you can see me upside down in the little screen with the pink dot on the l...

Re: obviuos differences between camera v1.3 and v2?

Hello 6by9, what you are suggesting is, if I am correct, to jury-rig one 4k7 resistor between GPIO 28 and a 3V3 pin, and a second between GPIO 29 and a 3V3 pin. Is this correct? This I can do with some breadboard and some spare headers/pins. I should have some spare TH resistor, hopefully (since the...

Re: obviuos differences between camera v1.3 and v2?

Hi 6by9, TLDR; I don't know. Can I just test the voltage when the camera is disabled? In this case is it sufficient not to ...

Hi 6by9, I've read about the EOL of Omni vision in this forum, and maybe I've made a mistake, but I needed to replicate the camera board and v1.3 seemed simpler than v2. As soon as the camera PCB will arrive from China I will think what to do. in the meantime I will triple check everythin. The prove...

Re: obviuos differences between camera v1.3 and v2?

Hi 6by9, nice knowing the details. That's why the camera was always found after some false tests. As per the cameras, as far as I can tell the boards seems legit: they have Raspberry Pi Camera rev 1.3 printed. Is there a way to tell if they are fake? One of them I am pretty sure is original cause I'...
