SD vs eMMC

Do the eMMC cards have the same issues as SD/MicroSD cards WRT the number of writes that can be done before they degrade?

Re: Owncloud and rasp pi

Take a look at NextCloudPi (www.ownyourbits.com). It is a prebuilt image of Nextcloud for the RaspberryPi. I have been running it for about 6 months and it works great.

Re: HD Partition questions

I cannot get it to work with at GPT partition, but all works fine with a MSDOS partition. I am guessing that the boot process of the Pi ONLY recognizes MSDOS partitions.

I had the same problem with the 1TB PiDrive booting process.

Re: HD Partition questions

Master Bus Record ( MBR ) has limitations. Its structures can manage drives up to a maximun size of 2 TB. You should select the GPT partition table type for your 4 TB drive (Gparted -> Device -> Create partition table -> New particion table type : GPT . Ok,I will give that a try. Can I then create ...

HD Partition questions

I've setup one of my Pi 3's to boot from a Hard Disk,a WD 1TB PiDrive. I'm trying to get my second one to boot from an externally powered WD 4 TB drive. When I try to partition it (following the instructions on the RP.org site) I get errors. I think I know the answer, but am looking for affirmation....

Re: Pi3 not booting from USB drive

Ok, I got it working. The ONLY thing I did different the second time is use the Command Line Partition process. The First time, I used GParted from the GUI. That probably did not set up the partitions and MBR properly.

Thanks Dougie for all the guidance.

Re: Pi3 not booting from USB drive

Yes, I do get the correct output.

I know you and others have gotten it working, so I must have done something wrong somewhere. I think I will delete the partitions on the HDD and do it again.

Thanks for the comments, I will let you know how it goes tomrrow.

/dev/sda1 is the FAT32 partition. It has the exact files that are on the FAT32 partition on the SD Card. I recopied them from the SD Card as one of my troubleshooting tasks. Made no difference...

Pi3 not booting from USB drive

First, I have followed ALL the info in the Boot Problems Sticky ( https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58151 . Re: Let's talk about anti virus and anti malware

I'm currently working on a security page to go in the documentation - this thread is quite useful! Also note that removing the Pi user may cause some things to stop working due to some reliance on the Pi user being there. This is in the issue list and will be fixed at some point. Yes PLEASE! I am w...

Don't know if a Zero will be enough, but I am running Nextcloud on a Rpi3. I am using Syncloud (Syncloud.org) to manage it. Works great.

Re: Using Raspberry Pi for Backups

I am experimenting with Nextcloud on the Pi using Syncloud (Syncloud.org). It seems pretty solid, but they do still have a few issues to address. I have been working with the Syncloud team to get some additional functionality needed and they are very responsive. Give them a look and see if their sol...

Ethernet problem?

I have a Pi3 running Raspbian Jessie March version. Originally set it up as a DHCP address. I just tried to set a static address. Seems to be working, I can ping it and connect via ssh. On the PIXEL desktop, the networking icon on the top right corner is noting that the eth0 link is up, but the inte...

New Linux/Raspbian user here. I'm trying to run DDclient on a Pi3 (using Raspbian Jesse) during startup. Trying to run this command: /usr/sbin/ddclient -daemon 300 -syslog When I rund DDclient manually, it works so I know I have it configured properly. I found this link ( http://www.raspberry-projec...

What happens if you "overpower" a Pi3?

I have a 5v 4.5amp power supply. If I connect that up to a Pi3, will the additional amps damage the Pi? Any other issues?

Thanks

Google is your friend.

I've used MCM Electronics and Allied Electronics as well as Element 14.

Also look at Adafruit, the seem to be a well know reseller of all things Pi. I've never used them.
