Re: I made a Raspberry PI Laptop

If you’re worried about messing up the dock, I’d just get an external battery as a power source for the pie. Wouldn’t add too much bulk depending on the battery.

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

I'm not sure regarding this cable since I can't see the schematic just by looking at the outside, but the switch is not at the connector end. It won't work unless you short the pins at the site of the connector.

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

I hear you about the keyboard and mouse. This was why getting the lapdock operational was so important to me. If I were you, I would sell it and put the proceeds toward another one... you can get them around $70 ish

If you take out the LCD, you can google the number on the back for the controller board.

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

Sorry for the delay, I've been ridiculously slammed lately. Finally managed to draw one on paper. Probably not as nice as I could have made it, but it gets the information across. The push button switch create a temp connection to signal the screen to turn on. The rest is dependent on the the conne...

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

Not sure about the connector, but just looking at the behavior of this vs. the Atrix, I doubt it's the same. On a side note, here's my MacBook using the 500 as a second monitor. I'm going to attempt to create a connector for my iPhone as I believe there are some lightning to MHL adapter that I can p...

so i have to put an usb connector to the another end too and plug it in the laptop/phone? at that end,the 4 pin is enough right?
I did a test of this to be sure, and 4 pins work

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

When I tested this, the 5 pins need to be connected, but my setup is a little different since I use the breakout board instead of the 5 pin cables. It's worth a test... but my setup has 2 breakout boards connected to each other with the 5 pins. Theoretically, because the cable should work also.

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

This setup worked with the laptop. I used it with my Mac and it works great.

In regards to the cable, you'll probably need to strip the connector end of the female micro-USB as most likely there is not a "sense" wire connected to the ID pin.

I'll see what I can do about the diagram.

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

I don't have a schematic of the setup, but the video should explain what I did (if you can stomach the poor quality of the video). Basically I connected all the pins of a micro USB female breakout board to a micro USB male breakout board (simply grounding the sense pin will not work... I tried). The...

Re: I made a Raspberry PI Laptop

I've managed to get the Lapdock 500 pro to connect to the pi 3 and created a prototype adapter for the connection.

Here's the link to the video I made to explain the connection. I apologize ahead of time for the poor quality of the video. :P

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello everyone, I'm Quan from the US. I was introduced to the Raspberry Pi by a friend a few years ago, but finally picked one up a few months ago. Now I own 3 and plan on a few more. I completed a few projects DIY, but the most recent one is creating a prototype adapter to work with the Motorola La...

Re: problems setting raspberry pi up with lapdock 500

I was able to get this working on the pi with a prototype switch. If there is enough interest, I may make some available for purchase. I was also able to make the connection to my Mac as well as a second monitor.
