Re: pi 4 32GB sd card doesn't work.

Trev, I think you are missing our point. It is possible that we have a bad SD card or reader. But I don't think so because mine work just fine in my Raspberry Pi 3. The same card, reader, and image don't work fine in my Raspberry Pi 4. And a 16GB SD card works fine in my RPi 4. I conclude that the R...

Re: pi 4 32GB sd card doesn't work.

I received a new Samsung 32 GB microSD card, and this one works much better in the Raspberry Pi 4. The old card still works fine in a Raspberry Pi 3, so I suspect there is still some problem with the RPi 4 and some 32GB memory cards.

Re: pi 4 32GB sd card doesn't work.

I had this same problem with a 32GB MicroSD card. I got a 16GB card to boot, and updated all including the firmware. Then I reloaded a new copy of Raspbian on the same 32GB card that failed previously. It now booted. I also updated it. It now works, so I conclude that the firmware update fixed the p...

Re: Where is software added with add / remove

OK, thanks, that worked. I installed several other packages and they added entries to the start menu so I guess some do and others don't.

Where is software added with add / remove

I come from a Windows background. When I install software on Windows, it is added to the start menu so I can find it to execute it. This doesn't seem to be the case on Raspbian. I viewed software available using Preferences > Add / Remove Software. I identified several packages that I want to try: U...

How to use the touchscreen display on boot

I have an image of Raspbian that works with an HDMI monitor and I want to use it with the touchscreen display. If I plug the SD card with the image into an RPi 3B which has a touchscreen display attached to it, I see a slight gray screen on the touchscreen display but that is all. If I plug an HDMI ...

Re: Brightness settings using GUI

I am running Debian X86 on an HP DV6700 laptop which has an Intel Centrino Duo processor. I copied this script to the laptop and saved it as brightness.py. When I run it, I get the slider shown in a window, at 50% brightness, but moving the slider has no effect on screen brightness. Any suggestions ...

Re: pi touchscreen stops responding to touch

I have an official 7" touchscreen which also stopped responding after a few minutes of booting. I could still control it using VNC. This was the only way I could shut down. When I shut down, the screen would revert to just the background screen without any buttons or icons, and stayed that way. I un...

Re: VNC Interface won't stay enabled

I am the OP. I had this problem with I was first setting up two Pi Zero W's to be used to send weather information to another Pi. I had the problem several times as I was developing these systems. However, once they were running regularly, as they have for many months now, the problem has not re-occ...

Re: VNC Interface won't stay enabled

After some more time working with this issue, I find that VNC is erratically enabled. That is, when I reboot a ZeroW that I just ran VNC on, it *may* start and refuse VNC connection, but if I reboot it, it again *may* refuse VNC connection, but eventually (usually after one reboot) it will allow VNC...

Re: How safe is it to use Pins 5 and 6 as a poweroff/poweron system

I just solved my problem with using another GPIO pin. The syntax is

dtoverlay=gpio-shutdown,gpio_pin=26

not

dtoverlay=gpio-shutdown,gpio-pin=26

as I discovered in my code. Of, course, using an alternate pin will not provide a boot-up function as will pins 5 and 6.

Re: How safe is it to use Pins 5 and 6 as a poweroff/poweron system

The RPi Zero W was running a newly downloaded version of stretch while the RPI 3 B was upgraded. Could this affect this working? Is I2C activated on the 3B? It uses GPIO3 (physical pin 5) which is the default Yes, it was activated. I de-activated it, and then the switch worked to both stop and star...

Re: How safe is it to use Pins 5 and 6 as a poweroff/poweron system

Sadly, using pins 5 and 6 worked for me on a RPi Zero W but not on a RPi 3 model B. I tried to follow the information in the firmware documentation on using "dtoverlay=gpio-shutdown,gpio_pin=26" to assign it to another GPIO pin but this also did not work. The RPi Zero W was running a newly downloade...

VNC Interface won't stay enabled

I have a Raspberry Pi Zero W that I just loaded with the latest Stretch image. To start using it, I plugged in a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and set it up for use. As part of that, I enabled the SSH and VNC interfaces. That all seemed fine. But several times, unfortunately not every time, when I sh...

problem booting with Linux 4.9.0.7-amd64

I just upgraded a PC running RPi Desktop to the latest release. When I restarted it, after the "Welcome to the Raspberry Pi Desktop" splash screen, I got a page with a Call Trace on it, Bug: unable to handle kernel paging request, OOPS: 0000 [#3] SMP, and a lot of other lines (which I cannot capture...

Re: Problem with rp-prefapps

I am quite lost by all of this. I guess I added MQTT Mosquitto to the apt cache as you indicated, but I admit I really don't understand this. I probably did get error messages when I ran sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade but these commands ran to completion while running the Recommen...

Re: Problem with rp-prefapps

I ran the code as suggested and now the prefapps shows the apps list. The list does not include Mosquitto, so whatever commands were given simply prevent it from failing. IMHO, it should not fail just because I installed some other software.

I am building a temperature project where it will display local temperature from weather.com and will also display the temperature at the RPi using an AM2302. Display and RPi stopped working after boot

I have a Raspberry Pi 3 connected to a touchscreen. It was working fine, but then it wasn't. Now, when I try to boot the RPi, I get the usual color square followed by some boot messages followed by "Welcome to the Raspberry Pi Desktop" then --- nothing. I cannot reach the RPi through VNC so it seems...
