Re: I sent a suggestion to Maplin...

I'd say just order them from Farnell or RS, the only other places I've seen that sell them have increased the price by £5 or so. I have got one that came from RS but had to send it back for replacement but I don't blame RS for that, it was obviously a factory fault. Although RS sent me a new one fr...

I sent a suggestion to Maplin...

I sent a message to Maplin Electronics suggesting that the Raspberry Pi should be sold on its own because of issues when buying multiple units for multiple projects, nobody wants an unnecessary overhoard of spare keyboards at an unnecessary extra cost clogging-up their house. I got 2 emails back fro...

Just got my replacement RasPi.

Just got the replacement, it is 256MB this time nit the 512MB that I had before but still, it's better than nothing I suppose. Weird thing when I first plugged it in, it went into the POST screen but then went blank and locked-up the controlls on my flatscreen TV, I had to unplug the TV to reset it ...

Heatsinks.

I purchased a couple of those minature heatsinks from ebay, is it necesarry for me to use them and will it void the warranty if I do?. When my replacment RPi arrives I will be putting it inside one of those Adafruit cases, that was the main reason why I got the heatsinks for I was wondering if the t...

Replacement RPi update...

Just found an email from Parcelforce, they are saying that RS Components have sent out a delivery on Friday so it looks like I will get my replacement Raspberry Pi either tomorrow or the beginning of next week, I just hope it works this time!.

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

I started a new thread before I stumbled on this, but bingo. I have this too. I just sent an angry e-mail to RS about this. I waited a sum total of 17 weeks for it (whereas my friends with element 14 only waited 4 weeks), and I have this "issue" and they don't. What good is 512Mb RAM if the whole t...

User Guide.

I just found my Raspberry Pi User Guide on my doormat as I entered the house, now all I need is for my replacement RPi to be delivered so that I can play around with what ever is in this book.

Hi I have just read you thread? I too have a brand new PI from RS delivered last saturday. Power stays on for about 2-3 min if I am lucky. How did you get on eventually? as it is now October and your problem started in June? I think I should waste no time and send it back. Thank you, all the best P...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

Just got a reply from raspberrypi@rswww.com and I apparently have to fill out a form and send it along with the RPi, I hope the next one isn't faulty because if that were to happen over and over again it will get rather expensive for me having to keep sending it back. I hope I don't have to wait age...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

UPDATE! No success so far... I just phoned RS and was told by an advisor to email them and be patient which I have already done, she said there is a bit of a backlog of emails in the Rapsberry Pi department. I just hope the email address I sent to was the correct one, this is the one I contacted. RS...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

It seems to be symptomatic for RS to not reacting to any form of communication, (except perhaps telephoning). My guess is that with 10.000 customers clamoring for attention they just can't cope with it. But if you follow normal procedures they should have personell to take care of your guarantee re...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

After emailing RS Components yesterday, I still haven't had any reply from them.

They have my address, home phone and mobile number, my name and order number; surely it can't be that hard for them to contact me to help me get a replacement.

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

Definitely send it back to them. You shouldn't be hit with another delivery charge, and they do have stock set aside to immediately replace defective units. Really sorry to hear about this - it's a VERY uncommon thing to happen (return rates are pleasingly low), and it really seems you've had prett...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

You could of course have a defective Pi! It sounds as if it might have something like a micro-crack on the board that causes a connection to break when it gets warm? If this is the case you may have to RMA it to get a reliable Pi. Mine stay on for days/weeks at a time without issue. I also say it's...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

Can you measure the TP1 - TP2 voltage. Another interesting voltage is the drop over the poly fuse on the bottom side of the pcb. TP1 -TP2 should be at least 4.85V for a stable operation. Maybe it's a bad board and that's why the ebayer sold it? I just purchased another power supply from Maplin, it ...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

Tried a friend's 5volt-1A Apple charger and it still trips out in less than a minute from cold, I get even less time after every power up after that.

I also got my new SD card, preloaded with Squeeze apparently, that one refuses to boot and flash the LED.

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

One possible problem is that RasPi's 5V is drooping as the OS starts to work harder, which can cause a monitor to turn off. Sometime you can fix it by setting a "config_hdmi_boost" value in config.txt. See the Display section of the RasPi Troubleshooting Wiki: http://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting...

Re: Raspberry Pi doesn't stay powered up for long.

What sort of monitor is it ? DVI, HDMI ? How exactly did you flash the SD card and what do you mean by "which has about 1/3 of extra space left after putting Wheezy on it " If you're not too technoically minded I'd hang on until the vendor sends you the SD card. Yeah I'm quite technically minded, t...
