Re: I replaced the USB connector on my PI.
Very good thread. Should write up a tutorial for all of us noobs :P I've a very basic tutorial on this page, if it helps. Can you let me know if it's clear enough (I wrote it post pub!) http://oliverjenkins.com/blog/changing-usb-socket-on-raspberrypi I'm working on another project at the moment, an...

Re: I replaced the USB connector on my PI.
Possibly because people aren't yet willing to take a soldering iron to their Pi while there's still such a long waiting list? ;) Its a soldering iron, drill and dremel in reality. I've put some further instructions here http://oliverjenkins.com/blog/changing-usb-socket-on-raspberrypi if anyone is i...

Re: I added a little twist to my case
I'm curious why you used a USB B socket for power input? The power supply I have accepts a USB plug, similar to a Kindle / mobile phone charger. So it made sense to use a USB socket on the board (since it would just need any USB cable). I find its easier to mount a USB B socket in to cases (just dr...

Re: I added a little twist to my case
Its called vero board or strip board. Think about it as a breadboard where you solder components in place. Its place is where you need something a little permanent.without needing to etch a PCB.

Re: I added a little twist to my case
Sorry, small typo. Its a continuity test, see this page for details http://www.ladyada.net/library/metertut/continuity.html
I used it to find out which pins are 5v and ground on the usb socket. That the correct connections on the USB port went to the correct location on the power plug.

Re: I added a little twist to my case
Could you post the schematics for the board where I'm assuming you link the USB B plug to the rest of the device? Hope these photos help? It's just a question of connecting the 5v from the USB socket to the red lead of the USB cable, and to the center of the plug. Similarly for ground. I also cut o...

Re: I added a little twist to my case
would you care to share the Hub and component list or will you be selling these as a mod Pi item somewhere I picked up the bits from a local Maplin. Case: http://www.maplin.co.uk/small-plastic-boxes-1665 Hub (was on special): http://www.maplin.co.uk/cerulian-4-port-usb-2.0-triangular-desktop-hub-51...

I added a little twist to my case
I've been lurking for while, so thought I'd share this case I'm working on. I need to finish the paint job, its a bit poor at the moment.
Here is a video of things going in to place, its a bit of a tight fit!

Re: I replaced the USB connector on my PI.
Thanks for the feedback. With sharing one PSU. I've a concern that plugging in or removing USB devices could cause a spike in voltage or something. I wonder if adding in a voltage regulator might be an idea or not. However I'm basing all that on ignorance, so thought I'd check.

I replaced the USB connector on my PI.
For the case I'm making, I wanted an integrated USB hub (need the power for WiFi etc). The stock USB socket would have stuck out too much. So thought I'd replace it with a PCB header. I am taking power through a USB B socket and splitting it off to the Pi and the Hub. http://imgur.com/a/PDI3v Everyt...
