Re: Experiencing slow response with Raspbian 2012-09-18

this is my script
http://pastebin.com/99d1QEt0

i'm using it on my raspi, if you want to try it just paste it in a file and chmod +x and read carefully the comments!

"sudo script.sh start" will mount and populate tmpfs
"sudo script.sh stop" will dump the database and unmount tmpfs

Re: Experiencing slow response with Raspbian 2012-09-18

after some weeks of brainstorming i've found the solution for the slow mumble server... the problem was the most obvious: slow SD card!! i tried to put the mumble database in a temporary ram partition, now it works flawlessly. I'm writing a script that mounts tmpfs on boot and backup the database on...

Re: help and advices for a sailboat telemetry project

thank you guys!

... the two pins of the i2c need the pull-up resistors or them are integrated in the RPi?

help and advices for a sailboat telemetry project

last week while i was sailing with a small boat i got an idea "it could be interesting and fun gather some data for later analysis... but, wait a moment, i have a RPi, we can do this!" main data should be position, speed and direction... speed and position are easy to log with a gps module, for dire...

Re: Python without a mouse

python scripts are nothing more than text files nano filename.py it's not necessary that the script has .py extension but nano highlights the syntax if the file has the right extension once you have written the script save and exit to run the script type: python filename.py if in your script you use...

Re: Raspberry Pi Physical Gmail Notifier

of course it's possible, take a look here http://effbot.org/pyfaq/how-do-i-send-mail-from-a-python-script.htm the first way looks easier to implement, just put the last 3 lines in an IF statement triggered by the gpio input ... you may need a couple of nested IF statement or some other tricky way to...

Re: Raspberry Pi Physical Gmail Notifier

you have to edit the script with your username and password (line 2 and 3)

EDIT: i almost forgot that you have to run the script as root otherwise python can't drive gpio

Re: Raspberry Pi Physical Gmail Notifier

I took advantage of your code to study a little python i've added to your script a pair of nice features: a led that is on during runtime so i'm sure that the script is running on schedule (i do not trust automatic things!) and a txt file where the script read/write if there are unread mail. i've do...

Re: SSH

you have to rename ”boot_enable_ssh.rc” into “boot.rc”. If you can boot and log in your rpi you will find that file in /boot/ ; if you can't, just mount the sd in your pc and you'll find the file in the fat32 partition!

Re: Trouble with video

you can use your vga monitor only through an expensive hdmi to vga adapter since the RPi hasn't an analog (vga) video out... note: the adapter have to be active hdmi to vga (and of course, expensive); a daisy chain of inexpensive passive adapter (hdmi->dvi->vga) can't work because dvi can carry digi...

Re: Power from usb 3.0 port

you con power the RPi from a pc. if you get some random kernel panic the power supply is not adequate. even if usb (1/2) minimum current out is 500mA, many motherboard can supply more current ... some laptop are more strict i power on my RPi by my pc (usb2) and it's ok, never got a kernel panic even...

Re: Near Space Project

you can't use GPS at such altitudes. gps civilian devices are limited in max speed and max altitude i think to prevent terrorists make drone missiles... if i remember well the max altitude is about 18km and the max speed is more or less twice as the speed of sound
