Starting Kiosk rtsp stream (with VLC) on boot

So, I have a IP camera linked up to my door that is connected to motioneye on another server. That server then streams the feed to my Raspberry pi that is running in kiosk mode in the kitchen. The only problem with this setup is that the stream is quite slow and has a low frame rate. If possible, I ...

Re: Wifi Dongle stopped working after dist-upgrade

Thanks Mr. Engman! The script did the trick.

I installed it a while ago, now I think back, I think I must have originally used your tool. Doh!

I didn't realize that doing a dist-upgrade would reset everything. I'm feeling slightly embarrassed now.

RPi 3 connected to 2 WiFi networks, Is this normal?

So, I finally got my wifi dongle working on the RPi 3 in order to upgrade my WiFi speed and I have found that BOTH the on-board wifi and the dongle are connecting to my network, giving a combined speed of around 12 Mb/s for file transfers (300 mbps + 72 mbps connections) Is this normal/working as in...

Hi Mr. EngMan, I'm trying to install the drivers for the TL-WN823N dongle, but I am getting the following error from the script: Your current kernel revision = 4.4.50-v7+ Your current kernel build = #970 Checking for a wifi module to determine the driver to install. Need help with TL-WN823N Wifi Dongle

Hi All, I'm in dire need of help. I've searched other threads for drivers for the TP-Link TL-WN-832N, but I cannot find any working links. Will this WiFi dongle work?

Hi all, I'm thinking of getting this dongle for my RPi: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/TOTOLINK_A1000UA Does anyone have any idea whether it will work out of the box with the RPi 3? If not, should I just go about installing the linux drivers that can be downloaded for it? I have lots of wireless N device...

RPi WOL Server

Hi All, I'm looking for a way to get my RPi to monitor network traffic and issue a WOL packet to my media server if it detects any requests to access the media server (via any port). I'm having a really difficult time finding out how to do this and google hasn't helped much. I've found the following...

Re: RPI Zero W + Laptop LCD

Thanks for the advice. One item I was looking at was incompatible with all 3 types of screen that I have :( I have about 9 screens from broken laptops. I think it'd be cool one day to create a huge display out of them and hang it on a wall somewhere. If a separate inverter is not required, why do so...

Re: RPI Zero W + Laptop LCD

One more question, if anyone knows the answer?

Is it essential to get a model that states compatibility with my screen or will all of the the controller boards work with all different LCDs?

Thanks again for any advice.

Re: RPI Zero W + Laptop LCD

Excellent. That will make my project that much easier.

I'm looking at building a video intercom system, or at lease just a remote video feed to my front door. I just have to wait until I can get a hold of two RPi Zero W's (I have 1 on the way).

Thanks for the advice.

RPI Zero W + Laptop LCD

Hi all, I'm looking at a project whereby i'd need to connect a RPi Zero to a Laptop LCD (Removed from a laptop) I understand I'd need a controller board and an inverter along with a power supply but I'm not sure exactly what parts would work. I was looking at the following items: Controller: https:/...

Re: Folder permissions and Samba

Thanks for the clarification. Any folders created with pi can't be modified with Silkstone at the moment. Is that working as normal? It's not a huge problem as I will generally use silkstone to modify them and on the odd occasion i need terminal access, i can set permissions for those individual fol...

Re: USB disconnects

Just an update in case anyone come across this through a search. The NS1066 chip on the Orico USB hubs does not play nice with the RPi 3.

I got a couple of buffalo ones today and they work fine. I did have to cover the +5 V pin on my powered USB hub to get them stable, but both disks now work well.

Re: USB disconnects

So I think I have narrowed down the issue.

e2fsck gives my drives a clean bill of health, but i've been reading that other people have had issues with the NS1066 chip inside the Orico enclosure.

I'll buy another enclosure tomorrow to see if this fixes the issue.

Re: Folder permissions and Samba

Hi Douglas,

Thanks for the reply. the hard drives are formatted with ext4 already. That's what caused them to be unaccessable without 777 permissions.

I've read that adding uid and pid when on a ext4 drive can lead to problems
