OMXPlayer is not in the repos anymore

I cannot install OMXPlayer because it is absent from the Raspbian Repos.

Any Ideas?

Re: omxplayer download & install

I have a problem. When building new PiBang images, I have discovered that omxplayer is not in the repos. What happened to it?

Re: Dear Mods: please make room for PiBang

No I have not answered, I am saying that having forums for each operating system would hopefully encourage users to post in the forum that is relevant to the Operating System they are using, having it the way it is has too many, as I said before, how do I run it on the Pi THE Pi IS HARDWARE No need...

Re: Dear Mods: please make room for PiBang

As the creator of PiBang, I appreciate your honest, candid, and succinct response. Tomorrow I will update the "vs" page, as I have been lax on doing so. You are not incorrect saying that it is a customized Raspbian, however it is something special for the following reasons: 1) Newer Kernel 2) Additi...

Re: Dear Mods: please make room for PiBang

A) it's all about exposure. Sure their forums are awesome, but it would help to have exposure. B) What's the point? sure you CAN install all of the things you mentioned in Raspbian. But out of the box PiBang has it installed. Pibang ships with the 3.6.11 Kernel, so you you would have to upgrade your...

Dear Mods: please make room for PiBang

There are several smaller operating systems that have been given room on this board and I feel that it is time that PiBang Linux be given the same treatment.

I formally request that PiBang Linux be given a section in the "distros" sections.

Re: Minecraft is here!

I know it says in the install instructions that you can just throw the binary on any old Raspbian install and play away, but can we get a list of dependencies so that users of PiBang and maybe even Arch can get in on the fun?

PiBang Linux Releases

PiBang Linux has just released their new images, yes images plural. There is an openbox image and an i3wm image. A lot of work has been done recently to rework the build scripts that build PiBang from scratch to give the perfect balance of light weight and easy to use. While still compatible with Ra...

Re: Looking for help, omxplayer

It is not a simplified version of "Linux". Linux is the incredibly powerful core of the operating system and the Pi uses a full version. The difference between your Ubuntu Install and a Raspbian, Arch, Gentoo, or PiBang release is the choice of window manager and default programs. While it is only a...

Re: Shutting down

It's highly advised not to pull the plug when running Raspbian, as the filesystem may break. What you can do however, is switch out to another TTY like so: CTRL + ALT + F6 Note that you can use F1-F7. Then, log in on the new TTY and issue the command: sudo telinit 0 This will gracefully shut down t...

Raspian Kernel vs Vanilla kernel

Are there any patches in the Rasbian Kernel or is it just a pre-compiled and optimized vanilla kernel.

If you wanted to build from GIT a 3.6.7 kernel could you, or do you need special code?

I am only interested in a armhf build.

This will tell Debian not to start LightDM automatically on boot. You can start in manually from the command line with:

Re: A way to uninstall packages?

If you have uninstalled a lot of software you can check/delete orphans with

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get autoremove --purge
Just MAKE SURE That you double-tripple the list of stuff it finds.

Re: Auto open browser on boot

Frankly your best bet would be to install openbox and have openbox open the bowser for you. this would give you a fullscreen webbrowser with NOTHING else. no statusbar, no time, no startmenu, nothing but the browser. sudo aptitude install openbox obconf obmenu and then make a openbox config file wit...

dd to backup image

I have a 32 gig sd card, but only 3.2 gigs are used. I want to dd to a backup image that can be loaded on a disk as small as 4 gigs (less than the used size) is there a way to do this short of starting over on a 4 gig chip?
