Headless music streamer via Windows7-to-Pi, VideoLAN, and either RDP or VNC?

At home I'd like to stream music in my kitches as well as in my garage. I figured the 2 Raspberry Pi 3s I have laying around would do a good enough job for this but it's been a very difficult thing to get going for many reasons... So, I thought I'd ask the pros around here what they would advise. Lo...

Re: Pi VM on Windows 7 (Virtualbox) Using Ubuntu Mate?

Bob, your post got me closer... After removing both the "serial -stdio" and "-nographic" parameters, I then re-ran the IMG and decided to look at the CLI that results from omitting the "-nographic" parameter. Looking through the "View" menu, I found options pertaining to the kind of display I had ac...

Re: Pi VM on Windows 7 (Virtualbox) Using Ubuntu Mate?

Per the documentation, it's how the parameter is spelled . (http://qemu.weilnetz.de/doc/qemu-doc.html) Here's what the issue looks like: http://www.caseyburk.com/other_stuff/odd_vm_display.png As you can see, it's like the VM interpretation of all UI elements is just off or not encoded correctly... ...

Re: Pi VM on Windows 7 (Virtualbox) Using Ubuntu Mate?

Okay guys, I did what you suggested / advised and started down the QEMU path. After downloading and installing it, I proceeded to try and work through the following tutorial: https://gist.github.com/takeshixx/686a4b5e057deff7892913bf69bcb85a I was doing fine until I got to the "Setup networking" sec...

I'll give that a go and see what happens. If I have any success, I'll follow up on here with what I did. :)

Thanks!

Re: Pi VM on Windows 7 (Virtualbox) Using Ubuntu Mate?

Okay... Is there anything that does? Better yet, is there anything out there that, if is capable of doing that, provides a tutorial on how to make it work?

Pi VM on Windows 7 (Virtualbox) Using Ubuntu Mate?

I'd love to create a Raspberry Pi Ubuntu Mate VM for Virtualbox (the host will be Windows 7)... Has anyone ever done this? There doesn't seem to be anyone out there that has per my Google searching. The closest I've seen was someone that did some sort of Debian approach...

Re: Vino / TightVNC Keeps Having Problems

RealVNC isn't on the system but it's beginning to sound that this might somehow be relate to the wireless router I have, which is a D2200D from Frontier. I only say this because of what I'm beginning to learn from the Ubuntu-Mate forum where someone claimed to have seen other posts similar to my own...

Vino / TightVNC Keeps Having Problems

I have a Raspberry Pi 3 with Ubuntu Mate 16.04 and I'm trying to make it completely headless and manageable with Vino / TightVNC from my Windows 7 laptop. Everything works great until at any random moment, I'm no longer able to use TightVNC Viewer from the Windows system. What happens is that I'll o...

Re: hci0 link tx timeout...

Hm, I would be quite surprised, if only two people would have experienced that behavior. Especially if has something to do with the Raspberry Pi onboard bluetooth chip. Or did you use an USB bluetooth dongle? That's what I thought, too. So after digging around in various forums, the few threads I f...

Re: hci0 link tx timeout...

I never found a solution to the issue, so I chalked it up to simply Pi lacking proper support for Bluetooth functionality. I eventually bought a simple set of USB speakers and never had any problems since.

Re: Logitec Orbit Quickcam AF + Motion

Please people! Don't all post at once! Here's an update to this: I've installed and successfully used "fswebcam -f 640x480 --no-banner /home/pi/Desktop/test.jpg" without an issue. It took a good image of my kitchen. :D But as soon as I installed Motion and issued "motion" from the prompt to ru...

Logitec Orbit Quickcam AF + Motion

I'm trying to use my old'ish Logitec Orbit Quickcam AF to play nice with Motion. However, I'm stuck at simply trying to test out the webcam itself to verify functionality... (I've installed Motion [after doing an update] without any issues and it looks like it's trying to work but can't seem to open...

hci0 link tx timeout...

Judging from the many tidbits I'm seeing from Google and such, Linux sure seems to have serious issues with Bluetooth or else many new users to Linux struggle with getting it to work correctly. Unfortunately, I seem to be one of those struggling with it and I'm hoping to get some guidance, so please...

Re: XRDP 'X' Mouse Cursor: Can this be changed?

I put the .xsessionrc file into /home/pi, rebooted, and works like a charm. (Before, I had tried to put it in /home only--not the "pi" subdirectory--which didn't work and now I understand why.)

Thanks a lot for helping with this. Seeing that annoying 'X' all the time was so frustrating. :)

XRDP 'X' Mouse Cursor: Can this be changed?

When I RDP into my Pi from my Windows 7 machine, I have a mouse cursor that is an actual 'X' (and not a "normal" pointer). I'd like to change this to a standard cursor. Right now, my "/etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme" file inherits Adwaita. I think I'm using VNC for the RDP functionality and so I tr...

Re: Bluetooth & Anker A7908 Speaker

Okay, I think I solved my issue (and hopefully, others): After uninstalling everything associated with both Bluetooth and Bluez (in an effort to start over with a clean slate), I rebooted then went into the "Add / Remove" to install the following: 1.) Raspberry Pi 3 Bluetooth (pi-bluetooth-0.1.1) - ...

Bluetooth & Anker A7908 Speaker

I recently purchased a Raspberry Pi 3 alongside an Anker A7908 Bluetooth speaker. When I initially loaded up Raspbian from the fresh SD card I have, the Bluetooth pairing was pretty straightforward. However, I would occasionally see disconnections from the speaker without any rhyme or reason. I assu...
