Re: Raspberry Pi 3 B+ lockups

New firmware is now available, including the USB corruption fix. I have not been able to find anything about this so called "USB corruption fix". I have checked your release notes and github commits, but could not find anything related to this since 2018. We have 10 RPi's that all consistently cras...

Re: LLVM backend for QPU development

Would it be possible to use this to encode/decode JPEG using some existing GPU JPEG encoder/decoder algorithms? It would be interesting to me, because simple things like resizing a 1080p JPEG to 720p takes almost a second on my RPI, even though it is in RAM (/tmp). If I remember correctly, decoding ...

Re: Raspistill hangs on capture

UPDATE: After a few hours, the vcos_semaphore_wait_timeout with 1 second (my shutterspeed won't get above 100ms, and usually taking a photo for the first time is not more than 800ms, and after that not more than 350ms) seems to work well. But I still don't understand how and why it works. The app a...

Re: Raspistill hangs on capture

How do you terminate your app? If you are killing then it is possible that some camera shutdown code might not be run, which might stop the next run from working. If you are letting raspistill shut down normally, that should be OK. Thank you for your reply. Termination of the app is not applicable ...

Re: Forum code readability

14M boards sold, approximately 500k a month being built. Assume 10% new owners, 50k new users per month. We do not get anywhere near that many new registrations per month. Right now, 631 guests online, and 19 registered users (You can only post if registered.) so about 3% registered. 3% of 50000 is...

Re: Forum code readability

Who is responsible for this forum anyway? Right now, day to day running, me. I'm assuming that anyone who ever bought a Raspberry Pi has visited this forum at least once, right? I doubt it. No way of knowing. I'm pretty sure that the executives have no idea about either the current state of the for...

Re: Forum code readability

For authenticity it is good that the forum matches the raspberrypi.org website, that is an opinion of - and a decision for - the Raspberry Pi staff. Complaining about the forum theme based on opinion would be the same as telling Raspberry Pi they should use a strawberry in their logo because of pers...

A forum revamp is long overdue, so all should be fixed then.

Re: Raspistill hangs on capture

I'm sorry, I'm terrible at explaining things properly. Maybe the log says more about the frequency of this occurring, down here is a log which gives a better view of how many times this happens. Everytime it says "photos", this means there are made about 4 to 6 photos after each other. When it says ...

Forum code readability

Just putting my personal opinion out there: Grey text on a grey background for code in this forum is horrible (on a TN-panel monitor). It is so horrible, that even though I barely use this website, I fixed it for myself in Firefox (version 53, Arch Linux) using the following file "~/.mozilla/firefox...

Raspistill hangs on capture

Using additional custom logging added to RaspiStill.c, I found that sometimes (arbitrarily) the following line hangs indefinitely: if (mmal_port_parameter_set_boolean(camera_still_port, MMAL_PARAMETER_CAPTURE, 1) != MMAL_SUCCESS) * In order to deal with this issue, I have set a timeout that kills ra...

Re: Raspistill hangs (camera does not work)

I am now running a test using the following script: #!/bin/bash # For a graceful shutdown, we can just do: `rm /tmp/testraspistill.flag` echo "1" > /tmp/testraspistill.flag count=0 while [ -f /tmp/testraspistill.flag ] do echo "${count}. Re: Raspistill hangs (camera does not work)

Even the problem is not occurring at this very moment (yet), I found that the current assert logs show this: > vcdbg log assert 412500.405: assert( !clock_rate_actual[i] || abs(clock_rate_actual[i] - f) < 1000000 ) failed; ../../../../../helpers/arm_loader/arm_loader.c::adjust_gpu_freqs_pre line 327...

Ok, so apparently I did not update the RPi. The problem occurred again, this time I used `start_debug=1`. Re: Raspistill hangs (camera does not work)

Update (I did not yet run start_debug=1 as I used an alternative approach, however, now it seems the problem just occurs after either a large amount of raspistill calls or a slight chance of a quick succession of two raspistill commands going wrong). After a certain amount of calls to raspistill, ra...

Re: Raspistill hangs (camera does not work)

bcm_host_init stalling is normally because there are too many connections being made to the GPU. Apps have to call it to talk to the GPU, but there are only 8 (IIRC) slots available on the GPU. Fill them all and the next one either blocks or fails (can't remember which - think blocks). Thank you fo...

Re: Raspistill hangs (camera does not work)

The cables/connections are attached very well, and the power supply is good, besides, this cannot be the issue as I can reproduce it with software, as the problem correlates with running raspistill in a loop. I used to run a loop of two calls to raspistill in a bash script: while [ true ] do raspist...

Raspistill hangs (camera does not work)

I have been running a bash script today that repeatedly calls raspistill to save a photo (I cannot really use the interval provided by this application). But after a few hours it suddenly stopped working. I checked what went wrong, as it turns out, raspistill just hangs and refuses to do anything. I...
