Is there a way to restart the Raspberry Pi Desktop with key command?

Hi, I have debian stretch running with the Pi desktop on a macbook air. Everything works pretty well, but occasionally the desktop freezes up. Nothing I do seems to "unfreeze" it, except if I shut the lid.... wait a few seconds (sometimes more)... and then open it back up -- the desktop interface se...

Re: Bluetooth support different between Pi3B and Pi0W?

Thank you. I did get it to work by using a different cable to go from USB to micro USB. I should have eliminated that before asking... sorry about that. Thanks again!

Bluetooth support different between Pi3B and Pi0W?

Hi, I loaded the latest version of raspbian (via noobs) on my Pi3B... and as it booted up for the first time, my bluetooth connected logitech keyboard and mouse worked like a champ! I had the bluetooth nub connected to one of the USB ports. Couldn't be happier. However, loaded the same image on a di...

Re: VNC missing on Raspbian Stretch

I just went through this same exercise a few mins ago... On my Raspberry Pi I enabled VNC from the Configuration tool. It's under Interfaces. On my macbook air running "Raspberry Pi Desktop for Mac" I needed to got to www.realvnc.com to download the DEB x86 version of VNC Viewer. Once downloaded I d...

Backing up Desktop for Pi on Macbook Air

Hi, I now have "Desktop for Pi on Mac" running well, and I'd like to backup my work. What's the best approach? I tried using the "SD Card Copier" application to create a backup, copying from APPLE SSD TS256C (/dev/sda) to APPLE SD Card Reader (dev/sdb). However, it get an error: Non-MSDOS partition ...

You can go back to any commit id with rpi-update. Or you can re-install the raspberrypi-kernel package.
Thanks man!!!

Re: When should I 'rpi-update' the Raspbian?

Whoops... what if I had issued the rpi-update command, and now want to go back to the stable kernel and firmware? Is there a way to reverse the impact of the rpi-update command? Newbie error, sorry. when should I 'rpi-update' it? It's best to only do it when told to by someone who is closely involve...

I'm not sure you have provided enough information for anyone to help you. Please explain more about what you are trying to accomplish. What's the relationship between the web cam, dots and a pen? Thanks

Re: Error installing python-mlt_6.4.1-4_amd64.deb

Thank you for the response above! I installed MLT for the i386 and that install worked! However, when I then went to run OpenShot (which was failing because MLT was a dependency) it opened, but then the whole box hung after about 15 seconds. No error messages. The box just froze up. I may just try B...

Re: Fancy GPS overlay on video

Hi, I don't want to discourage you from using a Pi to build this.... however, I have an Olympus TG-Tracker video camera that does what you are looking for and more. Specifically, it can overlay lat, long, temp, pressure, and other sensory data over the video (in several formats). Oh, and it's water ...

Thanks Jamesh! Appreciate the info. @Fruitoftheloom.... My question really didn't have anything to do with "Raspberry Pi Desktop for PC and Mac" either. I only mentioned it, because I'm sure someone would tell me that the Pi isn't powerful enough to run NetBeans. :) Thanks again for all your help!

Add/Remove SW tool does not have the latest distributions

Hi, I used the Add/Remove Software tool to add the NetBeans IDE application to my "Raspberry Pi Desktop" running on a Macbook. In particular, I downloaded and installed NetBeans IDE 8.1 which was the latest available in the tool. Knowing that version 8.2 has been out for a while, I decided to downlo...

Pi Desktop for PC/Mac / x86 Debian freezes

Hi, I recently loaded the pi desktop for pc/mac image on a macbook air early 2010 box... and I love it. However, it seems to freeze intermittently and the only thing I can do is power cycle it. (Btw, this also happens on my Rpi3 also, so I don't think it's unique to the macbook). Anyhow, are there a...

Diagrams can be created using LibreOffice Draw. Then export to .gif or .jpg These image files can also be uploaded to github, or integrated into a github wiki for your project.

Re: NetBeans install on RPi3

Well, I successfully downloaded and installed NetBeans on the RPi3... created a new project, wrote a hello world java application.

It took 33 minutes 42 seconds to build!! I then did a clean and build, which took 4 seconds.

Ok, this can't be normal. Should I expect better performance?

I have the latest version of noobs, and did the apt-get upgrade/update.... and went to the Add/Remove Software menu in the desktop UI. I have not used Z-wave extensively.... but I have used an application called HomeSeer, which now supports Z-wave for home automation. I see there are a few people trying to port homeseer to the Pi. At one time, I had nearly 70 devices managed in my home... but it was all X10. Z-wave had just started...
