Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Hi,

Does anyone know if the Pimoroni YS-LAN26 RT8152B supports per port power switching?

I've been trying to use uhubctl:
https://github.com/mvp/uhubctl/blob/master/README.md

I'm not sure if I have been using the commands correctly - I suspect that it only turns off the whole hub.

Thanks.

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Is there anything that can be done about this issue?
Is there a way to re-enumerate the USB devices in Rasbian as a work around, or is the bootcode.bin issue being looked into?

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

This is weird. AIUI, the enumeration of devices for networking is done by linux, not by bootcode.bin. So no idea why there would be a difference in the detected device when booting in the two different ways. I suppose it's possible that the bootcode when booting in USB mode leaves the device in an ...

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Hi rpdom Thanks for your time testing, it looks like you have come to the same result as me! The intermittent ethernet could well be due to power issues as mine has always been stable. I've raised an issue over on the github page https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/issues/1367 , and hopefully on...

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Ok, I've got one of those adaptors. If I get some time later I'll do some tests to confirm your results.
Thanks rpdom! Just to make sure the test is the same I also have the 'timeout' file on the SD Card, and this is an original Pi Zero (Pre W)

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Test 1: I've taken apart the YS-LAN26 RT8152B and de-soldered the +5V coming from the connector (plugged into the Pi Zero), and soldered the 5V (set to ~5.1V) from my bench PSU and tried again - It is still seen as a RTL8151. Test 2: The next test I have done is to use a powered USB hub connected to...

Yes! Looks like this may be the issue. Not sure how I overlooked something so obvious.
I'll investigate..

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Your pi might have enough power but your hub might not? Does your hub have a power port on the side? If you can test the voltage there? I can pretty much guarantee it is not a power issue - I have monitored the voltage on the hub and on the GPIO pins with no significant dips - current is monitored ...

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Great :) It is all being powered via a bench PSU which is more than capable (measured voltage on the GPIO pins), the minimum is plugged into the hub until I plugged in the USB Ethernet dongle. So this is from the USB Booted Pi Zero (No eth0), ethernet cable not connected: pi@raspberrypi:~ $ ifconfig...

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

The YS-LAN26 RT8152B is not faulty and all the LED light up correctly, I know this because: 1. It works on my Windows Laptop 2. It works --as I have said in the first post-- on the Pi Zero when booting from an SD Card as seen in this image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pqq48reao7tqir4/2020-04-07%2014.3...

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Hi DarkElvenAngel, Thanks for your reply, I don't think the ethernet is dead as it does work if I boot from the SD Card (Please have a look at the images in the first post) It only doesn't work when booting from a USB stick. It also looks like mine is a Realtek RTL8151 (0bda:8151), whilst yours look...

Re: Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Does anyone have any ideas how would I get the ethernet up and running? I've looked at the realtek package but it looks like the latest is installed. I thought that might not be the problem as it does work 'out of the box' if I boot from the SD Card, not USB boot. I've also plugged in a USB WIFI don...

Pi Zero USB Boot with USB Hub/Ethernet adapter

Hello I know that maybe a lot of people will not be using their board like this, however: I'm using a Pi Zero (Original, not W) with a USB/Ethernet adapter from Pimoroni. It is a YS-LAN26 RT8152B: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/three-port-usb-hub-with-ethernet-and-microb-connector Every thing wo...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

Glad I brought a HardKernel N2 now. More money granted, but works with no problems. My Pi4 works with no problems. I have an Odroid-N2 which should be faster for various reasons, but in practice the Pi4 is faster. Compiling a large program on the Pi4 is quicker than on the N2 for example. Same comp...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 temperature

Your concern trolling has been noted. If the Pi4 does not fit your use case, don't use it. James, When I first alerted people about the thermal issues with the Raspberry Pi 4 on 26 June 2019, I was labelled a "Troll" and a "Whinger" by some of them. Et tu Brute? I regard this reaction and behaviour...

Sony IMX219 8MP Future Availability

Hi, There was a bad earthquake in Kumamoto, Japan a few weeks ago and I have seen reports in the press that Sony has sensor plants there which were affected. http://image-sensors-world.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/second-earthquake-affects-two-sony-fabs.html Is this disruption likely to affect the availab...

Re: C# RaspberryPi.Net Setting GPIO Resistors

Hi,

I've been looking into this (on and off) for a while now and cannot seem to figure out how to set the 'GPIOResistor'

If anybody has some advice - or an example on how to do this, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: C# RaspberryPi.Net Setting GPIO Resistors

Yes
I've seen that (_resistor), but wasn't sure how to use it and needed an example of its use.
I think I've figured it out now, just need to compile it and test when I have a bit of time.

Yes I first used GPIO 17 (pulled down), then changed over to GPIO 8.

C# RaspberryPi.Net Setting GPIO Resistors

Hi, I'm writing a program which uses the RaspberryPi.Net to access the GPIO pins. This sort of works, however it looks to be setting the internal Pull-up/Pull-down resistors. I'm using GPIO 8 (Pin 24) as an input: If I query the GPIO with the shell commands (cat /sys/class/gpio/gpio8/value) it works...

Hi, My setup: -RPi with openelec. -WRT54G -MFD2 Car stereo I also have a RPi in my car, but I have done it differently. I have a WRT54G as a wired router (Because of the USB issues), this 'may' be why you are losing wifi. http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=12097 I use a PIC (Whic...

Hi,

This is a good script for shutting down the RPi.

I would like to use it in Openelec's version of XBMC, does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks,

Yes, I've seen the same problem. Might be worth adding to bug report here:

All working again with 11955 :)
