Re: Does anybody else have problems with USB 3 storage on RPi4?

HawaiianPi, the reboot time and startup of Home Assistant. The problem with Z-Wave is that it's the only thing in my system that I can't have a dual (or triple) setup of, so if Z-Wave goes down, the Pi has to be restarted and Home Assistant needs to get running and get all of the Z-Wave stuff up aga...

Re: Does anybody else have problems with USB 3 storage on RPi4?

I liked that Flirc case, but it will be twice the price when ordering to Norway. I wonder if they will get a reseller. They do for the Flirc USB IR device.

Re: Does anybody else have problems with USB 3 storage on RPi4?

Interesting. My plan was to put my Pi 4 in a plastic box like the ones I use for my Pi 3's, when that arrives for the Pi 4: Pi-kabinett.jpg The CPU is not really taxed at all, my Pi 3's are normally around 2-7 %. Would it be a problem with the Pi 4 without heat sink or fan? The ambient temp is aroun...

ejjaquay, hallelujah! Thanks for saving my sanity (even though some may say that it's long gone...)! I had done a few days of trying to get this to work with different combinations and I was about to order a new, much more expensive SSD box when another user linked me to this thread....

Re: Does anybody else have problems with USB 3 storage on RPi4?

Ipsw, bingo! I actually have the very same JMicro chip as in the thread you linked to! Weird thing is that I googled myeyes red for "boot" "usb 3" "pi 4", and I didn't find anything. So thanks! HawaiianPi, I'm using a unifying myself, and right now I have the SSD on one of the USB 3 ports,...

Re: Does anybody else have problems with USB 3 storage on RPi4?

Spb, I think it may be the issue mentioned by Ipsw. If it isn't I'll get back to you with those results. Hawaian Pi, the Pi 4 should boot without a hitch on a hybrid solution, with /Boot on the SD, which I'm using. So that's not the problem. Ipsw, thanks a lot! That sounds very interesting! I will c...

Does anybody else have problems with USB 3 storage on RPi4?

I was really looking forward to getting one of these, because I boot from SSD; and USB3 and the new CPU would mean blistering fast boot. But unfortunately it doesn't work. When I connect the USB3 (which works on Windows in USB3) SSD to an USB 2 port on the RPi4, it mounts. When I do the same on the ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

Do you guys boot from USB3? I can only manage to boot from the two left, black USB2 ports with my M.2 SSD in an USB enclosure. The USB3 ports give me an error message after the four raspberries. Edit: And an USB 3 memory stick isn't reliable either on USB3. It's like there's an error on the USB chip...

Re: Backing up and restoring USB-boot to an SD Card

You forgot one: reliability! Convenience and reliability means everything. Reliability is number one of those two. The process will be initiated by Node-RED in the middle of the night (04.10, since there is a "refreshing" reboot of all Pi's at 04.00), and these are only used for this, so I...

Re: Backing up and restoring USB-boot to an SD Card

OK, that synthax can't work. it's up to 17,6 GiB now, and it seems it's backing up the full drive, not just the partitions. So next attemt: Making a dd backup of the boot partition, dd restore that, create a partition that covers the rest of that SD Card and then dd restore the home partition to tha...

Re: Backing up and restoring USB-boot to an SD Card

Thanks for answering! I see. So I have to do the restore as well with the dd. In that case it would be so much easier if I could do a backup to a data partition on the SSD and then restore it to the SD Card. The problem with that seems to be that I can't find a way to do a backup of the boot and hom...

Backing up and restoring USB-boot to an SD Card

I must admit that after a couple of years with Pi's I'm not an advanced user, but this is pretty advanced use, I think. I am using several Pi's (five at home, and two at my cabin) for home automation with Node-RED and Home Assistant. For stability reasons I am going to use some M and M2 SS...

Re: How can I get rid of Pulse Audio completely and get ALSA

Wow, something like what's used for car-pc's? I have one of those from my previuos setup, but this one has to be a lot less visible. But it would be nice. Can you give me the link? At the moment I'm trying out a 7.2 Ah sealed 12V battery for a UPS. That has been running for six hours now, and from m...

Re: How can I get rid of Pulse Audio completely and get ALSA

Not really, JRMC works perfectly for that size of a library. Except for the long startup I am doing good with that, I will probably add a small motorcycle battery or a capacitor to keep the Pi running while the starter motor is used. I will also try the Xbox media center spinoff , though. Buit if I ...

Broe23, I see, thanks! Then I will have to use Pulse. I coldn't code anything more than Python/Lua to save my life! Douglas6, yeah, I may have been a bit unclear. The handsfree profile is what the Volvo sees the Pi as. But I will go back one image (I do image backups of everything I do) to...

I mostly search, I don't browse much. I know what I want and key in the first letters. Re: Is there some sneaky trick to start faster?

Well, from what I can read I don't think that it can give me full overview of 160 000 + tracks, with search and control from my phone. Using mouse and keyboard connected to the Pi in the car is just cumbersome, I'd have to stop every time I wanted to change music. If I'm wrong please correct me.

Re: Is there some sneaky trick to start faster?

Because that's about the only thing available in the necessary size that has composite out. Pure and simple. Even if I have a good sized car (Volvo XC60 is a midsized SUV), there isn't that much room to put a totally invisible computer. And because I wanted to try something new as well.

Re: Is there some sneaky trick to start faster?

Guys, I need to explain this. I must use JRMC with GUI because I have 160 000 + tracks in my media library, and that is about the only program where I can find what I want to listen to fast enough, not to mention that I have JRMC on my home media server and use the library from there in the car. :mr...
