Re: OpenCV on the Raspberry Pi

I've pretty much given up on trying to use a webcam with a Raspberry PI. I can get a webcam working but the frame rate even with the resolution down to 140x120 (or something equally as poor) never goes above 6 fps. Which is the best I've had running but generally it's more like 2 fps when you try ou...

Re: Stationary balloon with RPi, webcam and 3g module

Motion will stream video over a http port. I think that's even the default setup. When you type in the motion command to get it running it should tell you the location of the webcam stream.

Re: Webcam and motion performance

I just used luvcview as a quick way to see what fps the camera was managing but it's motion that I actually want to use in my project and it's that what takes 3-4 seconds to notice any movement. Then looking at luvcview I could see it's damn slow at 2fps. I'm going to head to a maker night next this...

Webcam and motion performance

I'm using the new Debian image If I plug in just a USB webcam and "luvcview -s 160x120" (that's the only resolution that works) I get around 2 fps. Then when I start up motion with it's configuration set not to store an image or video file, just to output a message to say motion detected the delay i...

Re: Wildlife camera

If i would have known about this Canon CHDK when I bought my new high end compact a few months back I would have got one! I'm trying to create a setup whereby I can position my Pi and digital camera near the window right in view of where the house martins fly to the eaves so that I can take a good p...

Re: Driving a RGB LED (PWM and 555 IC's)

I've just added a blog post to my site on how I've got Ruby talking to an Arduino over serial. Later today I'm going to put the Ruby code onto my Raspberry Pi, plug the Arduino into the Pi and have the Pi moving send move servo commands to the Arduino. The Arduino uses PWM to tell the servo what pos...

Re: Motion

No exactly the same problem even when using Raspbien updated to current firmware.

Camera detected right away but image only any good at 160x120px. Cam works fine on a Mac at all resolutions.

Re: Motion

I'm seeing a similar horizontal break up of the webcam image. The only way I can stop this is if I reduce the image size down to the minimum supported by the webcam (160x120 or something) and then the picture is perfect if not very small. I'm wondering if I need to purchase a powered hub but I'm not...

Re: Can't get any webcams to work? (I'm seeing /dev/video0)

All I keep seeing is "Init v4L2 failed"

I've event tried adding LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabi/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/uvccapture which seems to be the fix for every other web cam issue out there but still exactly the same.

I just don't know where to go from here.

Re: Can't get any webcams to work? (I'm seeing /dev/video0)

There is a post here on using uvccapture: http://blog.pixelami.com/2012/06/uvccap ... n-squeeze/

I tried some other programs but can't for the life of me remember which.

Can't get any webcams to work? (I'm seeing /dev/video0)

So far I've tried to plug in an existing webcam I had laying around which didn't work and then I purchased an additional (cheap) webcam http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9372375.htm which also refuses to work. Both webcams after being plugged in show up as /dev/video0 but I cannot get...

Re: Photography Projects

You shouldn't need the arduino as the Pi has all the hardware connections you need through the GPIO header to run servos. Using something like motion you should be able to get it to follow subjects as well automatically. You shouldn't need the Arduino but personally I prefer to have an Arduino nano...

Re: LEDs on GPIO

When I first got my Pi I couldn't wait to take my programming from the web and into the real world, activating LEDs, servos, sensors etc. and although the Raspberry Pi is sold as a $25 piece of kit that can easily be replaced if you break it. The fact is right now they are like gold dust and you're ...

filesystem on SD card no longer accessible!

I've seen one other person with the same issue. Everything was working fine one day and then the next day the OS just will not boot, complains about not being able to read the SD drive. Looks like all I can do is start again with a clean image on the SD card. I'm not over the moon about this since I...

Re: What's the best way of doing stuff with the GPIO in PHP

A nice little article here on controlling an Arduino via serial using PHP which should give you some pretty good pointers on how you may be able to do it with PHP directly.

Re: Status of SD card compatibility - What should I buy?

I was a little worried at first when trying to source a decent SD card and since I needed a new card for my camera I thought I would hedge my bets and get a class 6 from somewhere and a class 10 from somewhere else. I'll put the info here, maybe it will help someone else making their decision. 8GB S...
