Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Have you updated the firmware on your SATA to USB cable?

Yeah, would be nice to do it without using an SD card though!

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

I've reverted back to having / on the SSD card.

For some reason the storage was being set to read only and other strange behaviour.

It'll have to do for for now, but there's still something wrong with the SSD USB drivers and this USB3 port.

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Sorry, not sure.

Maybe try looking for a new firmware for that device or try the one that I've used. It backups up the current firmware so I'm going to assume that you get the ability to reflash it if the new one doesn't work.

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Run lsb as below and see if you get the following results. If you do, then go for it. Although I ain't promising that it doesn't brick it! Mines working but I'm noticing some cpu related slowdowns.

It'll do for now though, for what I need I can wait for any improvements.

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

do you know how to find out if your procedure will work for my SATA to USB device? Run lsusb and if you get the same result here you should be good to go. It's the JMS567 type Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 002: ID 152d:0578 JMicron Technology Corp. / ...

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Yes, completed this about 15 minutes ago.

You're updating the firmware of the USB-SATA device, not the RPi

You could in theory do it from any Linux PC/Laptop etc

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

I've just this minute figured out why it wouldn't work.... So, found out that it would work using the PARTUUID method as per the guides etc but only when plugged into the USB2 socket. The I found this site https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/software/jms578_fw_update and updated the firmware as below...

Re: [PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

I have just followed the instructions at https://www.tomshardware.co.uk/boot-raspberry-pi-from-usb,news-61081.html and it worked ok for me. When I booted first time it took a while and flashed a few messages about /dev/sda2 (where I put /) then proceeded to display the desktop. I now have /boot run...

[PI4:] how do I move the filesystem to a USB stick/Drive

Hi Guys, I'm trying to accomplish this on a new RPi4 because it doesn't natively support USB boot but I'm having issues. I'm using Raspbian Buster and I'm using the PARTUUID method as described in quite a few guides but I can't get the thing to boot. I don't have any micro HDMI ports to check what i...

Re: Instructions for building XBMC for Raspbian

Has anyone successfully used XBMC on Raspbian at full 1920x1080? I had started a thread asking about it, but I guess the people in the know pay the most attention to this thread :-P Here's a pic of what's happening when I try to put the screen in 1920x1080 https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-I7kUpr9...

So can someone that has successfully run through the entire RC3 install process not just image their card and then allow others to download that image?

So RC3 was released last night and it seems the sheer traffic has taken Sam'sweb site and forums down! That's surely a good sign! Anyway, I'm not having much luck with it - as with all of the nightlys on RC2, as soon as XBMC tries to access the internet for any artwork or play some media it c...

Re: WG111v2 and WPA ?

I followed the link and installed the software but there's no mention of it updating the firmware at all. I've searched the site for any firmware and can nothing at all. I'm pretty sure that 'WG111v2 Version 4.0.0' only refers to the software version and not the firmware. Beside this, has anyone got...
