Well, I for my part decided to start from scratch with a clean image.

Thanks for all the great work! Updating with sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade works as far as: Setting up raspberrypi-bootloader (1.20120918-1) ... Your current start.elf is the same as arm224_start.elf Removing 'diversion of /boot/arm128_start.elf to /usr/share/rpikernelhack/arm128_start...
