Re: Ethernet, WiFI and MQTT - I need help with networking

Hi Bob,

While thinking about using the RPI's AccessPoint, I got concerned about its range. Will this work if the robot is on the other end of the building?

Re: Ethernet, WiFI and MQTT - I need help with networking

Thanks Bob!

I assume that all of this happens on the computer that will serve as the "remote" computer?

I will try to get this setup by the end of the week if work doesn't get in my way.

Re: Ethernet, WiFI and MQTT - I need help with networking

I can use whatever OS is required. Some of the RPIs on the robot are running Buster, others are using Stretch. I have a mix of both RPI3 and RPI4 on the robot.

For the remote control, I can use whatever would work the best and I guess easiest!

Re: Ethernet, WiFI and MQTT - I need help with networking

Hi Bob, Thank you very much for responding and for asking a very good question! I don't think I need internet access. The only reason I always think about internet access is the lack of a realtime clock on the RPIs. I do a lot of data logging so I will need a way to set the clocks, but I suppose I c...

Ethernet, WiFI and MQTT - I need help with networking

Greetings all, I need help with some networking for my project that uses MQTT. I have a robot, that uses 6 RPIs and 1 Arduino that are all connected together via Ethernet and communicate with MQTT. They are all assigned a fixed IP address and this all works good. All of the RPIs also are connected t...

Re: STRANGE -- make changes - reboot - changes are gone!???

Wow, Seems like the general consensus is a failed SD card. It makes sense seeing that I just did the image copy of it which means I handled it. For what it is worth, it is (was) a: Lexar633x 16GB Micro[1] HC I Luckily everything is backed up both as an image and my Python programs are copied in nati...

Re: STRANGE -- make changes - reboot - changes are gone!???

If I did, I have no idea how I could have done that?

What should I look at to check this?

STRANGE -- make changes - reboot - changes are gone!???

Wow, another odd problem. I did an image backup of this SD last week. It runs fine, my program that is auto loaded runs as it should, HOWEVER I just copied a new file onto the desktop - all seemed normal I edited LXDE-PI to prevent auto running - all seemed normal I rebooted, Those changes were gone...

Re: I need some network HELP - VNC problems

There are a fair number of devices using this WiFi connection

2 IPhones
1 IPad
1 Bose Speaker
1 Smart TV
1 FireStick
7 Raspberry Pi (6 of which are on the robot)

I believe that is about everything.

I need some network HELP - VNC problems

I have a robot that has FOUR RPi3 and TWO RPi4 that all communicate with MQTT between each other. Each RPI has a Fixed IP address and they are all connected to each other through a switch that is on the robot. This works reliably and so far has had no problems. Each of these RPi also can connect to ...

Re: Is anyone really using dual 4k drivers on Rpi4?

I really don't understand the OP point with his comment / question, however, I can say this much, I am very happy there is dual video output and even more happy that it is 4k. I have applications I am working on that are for the trade show exhibits where the RPI will be providing the media to displa...

Re: TTS Engines - won't say first word??? Flite, Festival, PICO

Hi Guys,

Thanks much for the information. I didn't think of the idea to play the resulting WAVE file on another computer or in a different way to see if the file is good or bad! I will do that once I get back in the shop.

Thanks again!

TTS Engines - won't say first word??? Flite, Festival, PICO

Good morning all, I am playing around with some TTS engines (Flite, Festival, and now PICO). The one problem that is consistent with all of these is they are skipping the first word (give or take a little bit). Is there some trick to make them work better? Also, if someone knows of how to use PICO f...

Re: MQTT - publish causes program to lock up -SOLVED

FOr anyone that was watching this topic, it is now resolved. The issue seemed to be related to everything in this program being in classes with the exception of the MQTT stuff. Once that was sub-classed, the problems went away and things are running reliably (well, for the last hour) Thanks for the ...

Re: MQTT - publish causes program to lock up - randomly

Dougie,

Can you explain what you mean by this, sorry, it is over my head.
When I've run a publish in a button I've driven the MQTT stuff with a lambda function and done the full connect() sequence before running the publish().
Thanks!

Re: MQTT - publish causes program to lock up - randomly

The mystery deepens further. I have tried a bunch of different things and everything yields the same result, my application freezing up sometimes. Whatever is going on, it is certainly tied to the MQTT publish process. I broke down the program smaller and smaller to the most basic elements which can...

I ran a log with the following commands def on_log(client, userdata, level, buf): print("Log: ",buf) ..................... Mq_C.on_log = on_log This is the...
