Re: Help lowering a 12v supply to a 3.3v

Thanks for the offer of drawing a diagram, it would be useful. For uploading images, I've been uploading to this site https://postimage.org/ and then copying the 'direct link' of the uploaded file and pasting it in here. One thing I do need help with is monitoring the output from multiple pins on th...

Re: Help lowering a 12v supply to a 3.3v

I don't have a 36k resistor, is there another combination I could use? I have 1k, 2k, 2.2k, 3.3k, 4.7k, 5.1k, 6.8k, 10k, 20k, 47k, 51k, 68k, 100k and some above that. I've tried a 20k+10k (30k) and then a 10k on my battery and it's giving me 2.6v when connected to the alarm. This seems to be enough ...

Re: Help lowering a 12v supply to a 3.3v

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I've wired my circuit up directly to a 12v battery, and the output from the circuit is 3.2v, which is perfect. So it seems that the circuit itself is correct, but when wired up to the 12v pins on the alarm system, the output from the circuit is only 1v. I simply can't figur...

Help lowering a 12v supply to a 3.3v [solved]

To give an overview, our home is fitted with a Honeywell Galaxy G2 security system. This system has a number of output triggers which can be programmed to allow you to detect when certain actions have happened. I want to connect these triggers up to a Raspberry Pi and email/text/do whatever when cer...

Why use a resistor across IO pins?

I'm new to the Raspberry Pi, and have come across a couple of projects where there's a resistor across two of the pin and wondered why this would be? For example, I think the first was a temperature sensor (DHT22/11), where there was a resistor across the data and the gnd connections. I've seen anot...
