Re: Problem running the "Scary Spot the Difference" tutorial

Yes, you guessed the problem. I had double checked the names, but looking again I notice that the source refers to one of the files as a .jpg and the other as a .png file. I had downloaded both in .png format. The fact that the program hangs when it fails to load the file seems particularly unfriend...

Problem running the "Scary Spot the Difference" tutorial

The blog at RaspberryPi.org is featuring a Python that project that I'm having troubles with. It is provided incrementally with explanations at each stage of the way; here's a link to the page that has the whole works: https://www.raspberrypi.org/learning/scary-spot-the-difference/worksheet/ Before ...

Re: Turtle.stamp() disables Turtle.onclick() events?

I'm not registered there, but from a quick look at the bugtracker site, it looks like you can log in with your Google account. Maybe worth a try? To be honest I wanted to set up a fresh account there, with the same user name as here, but with your encouragement I went ahead and did that. We'll see ...

Re: Turtle.stamp() disables Turtle.onclick() events?

The python documentation at https://docs.python.org/2/bugs.html suggests using the python issue tracker at https://bugs.python.org/ I've made multiple attempts to register at the python issue tracker site over the past three days. In each case I've completed the form and been shown a "registration ...

Re: Turtle.stamp() disables Turtle.onclick() events?

Thanks for those links - I'll post something there. No doubt you're wondering why I didn't find the links myself. I should have googled 'python bugs'. :oops: My trouble is that I'm running into things I need to look up faster than I can tick them off the list. I just discovered python two months ago...

Re: Turtle.stamp() disables Turtle.onclick() events?

My guess would be that the stamp somehow gets placed above the turtle, catches the click and passes it through to the canvas. Based on that, I thought of the following workaround: In your left_click function, repeat the send_turtle command immediately after the tom.stamp() command. My reasoning was...

Turtle.stamp() disables Turtle.onclick() events?

I've run into some behavior that seems weird to while playing with Python's Turtle library. What I've discovered is that after using Turtle.onclick() to set up event notifications for mouse clicks on the turtle, it fails to work immediately after a Turtle.stamp(). It works fine after any and all oth...

Re: Is there a trick to booting with a different monitor?

I read some of your previous post https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=159968&p=1038276#p1038276 and it appears that you ran sudo startx at one point. Running sudo startx even once is a GUI killer. If you hunt around the forums here, (using Google), you might come across a fix fo...

Is there a trick to booting with a different monitor?

I'm new to the world of Raspberry Pi - I'd worked in Qnx 20 years ago, so not entirely inexperienced on unix style OS's but for all practical purposes I'm a newbie. I've been running on a Visio HDMI TV which runs perfectly. I've tried a couple of times now to boot to the larger screen TV in my livin...

Re: Trouble connecting pi 3 to router via WiFi

@gaffer: Good to hear that you got it working. Thanks Mike. I really did appreciate your input. What's interesting is that I've just reinstalled Raspian (due to a different problem, see here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=1038276#p1038276 ), and I connected like magic without d...

Re: Can't login after switching monitors

I've used Noobs to reinstall my OS - on the plus side it goes quicker once you gain experience. For the benefit of anyone reading this because they are experiencing a similar problem, I should mention that the first time I got into that deadly embrace, I did some research on my Win7 laptop and found...

Can't login after switching monitors

I have two different Visio monitors that accept HDMI connections. I've shutdown and rebooted repeatedly while connected to the smaller one and never had a problem. I'd planned to sometimes take my Rpi 3 to the living room and hook it to the larger screen, which I thought would be dead simple, but in...

Re: Trouble connecting pi 3 to router via WiFi

Thanks again for your help Mike. I followed the link and tried it as you suggested, but to no avail. I still got the "bad passcode" response despite providing the correct passcode. That was the last straw, and I decided it was time to turn off the Access Control list on my router as Dougie had sugge...

Re: Trouble connecting pi 3 to router via WiFi

Thanks for the input Mike. I tried editing the files per your examples, but no joy. Actually had a problem running that way; it messed with my ethernet connection (it indicated I had one, but I couldn't connect to any websites). I put them back to vanilla and ethernet is good again, but no wifi.

Re: Trouble connecting pi 3 to router via WiFi

What you need to do is simplify your /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf file. ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev update_config=1 country=US network={ ssid="your_SSID" psk="yourWPApassword" } let wpa_supplicant work out what's needed to associate with your access point. You...

Re: Trouble connecting pi 3 to router via WiFi

after rpi-update you now get kernel 4.4.19+ Thanks for the info. However, I just used "sudo apt-get update" and am still seeing 4.4.13. (As I'm still feeling my way with Raspbian, I should probably note that I also followed a suggestion that came with the update to use autoremove, which removed pyt...

Re: Trouble connecting pi 3 to router via WiFi

Googling tells me that brcmfmac has to do with the onboard broadcom wifi, and I'm guessing that really is the root of all my troubles. I wish I knew more about the subject... Re: Trouble connecting pi 3 to router via WiFi

What have you got in /boot/config.txt? Most of what's in there is commented. There are three active lines: # Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835) dtparam=audio=on # NOOBS Auto-generated Settings: hdmi_force_hotplug=1 # added 9-10-16 in attempt to run with 24 bit color framebuffer_depth=24 That last one...
