Re: rc.local tmux session not running after boot up

ok so i added that command at the end of the line in rc.local and i rebooted and both tmux sessions are now listed. The issue was that the mqtt still wasnt listening. I attached to the mqttListen session and saw it had an error, which I posted about here btw: https://community.home-assistant.io/t/mq...

rc.local tmux session not running after boot up

I have edited my rc.local to run 2 different tmux sessions on reboot. One of them always runs fine, the other one doesnt. Here are the contents of my rc.local: # Print the IP address _IP=$(hostname -I) || true if [ "$_IP" ]; then printf "My IP address is %s\n" "$_IP" fi #added2rebootRunTmuxReconnect...

Re: Backup Restore Rpi dmg via terminal on mac

So wait, you're saying that even though hassio is not 64gb, because I put it on a 64gb card is (I guess due to how the imaging process works) being considered as a 64gb chunk? And that I would have to put the image on a 128gb card? Or just keep trying 64gb cards until I find one that has an actual s...

Re: Backup Restore Rpi dmg via terminal on mac

It did not boot. So I proceeded to make another copy and when I inserted the original hassio microsd I noticed that the Mac simply doesn't recognize whatever format hassio does to the microsd because I got the same popup dating it didn't recognize it. I went ahead and made a cdr of it and saved it o...

Backup Restore Rpi dmg via terminal on mac

Ive created the dmg file on my mac and now Im using the respective command: sudo dd if=~/hassioon2.dmg of=/dev/disk1 to restore the image to the new microsd card. It asked me for my password and has been there for about 3.5 hours. Its a 64GB microsd. The computer doesnt seem stuck in any other respe...

Re: How to check if my backup is good?

Thanks, one of the dmgs is 31.5 size according to Finder, but when I tried restoring it onto a 32GB card it failed. It didnt say it ran out of space, it just started working on the terminal and after 15 or so minutes popped a message saying the disk I had inserted was not readable.

How to check if my backup is good?

I made a backup of my two cards (hassio on rpi2 and raspbian on rpi3). By this I mean that I created a dmg via terminal using sudo dd if...of... Then I restored those dmgs to new SD cards using unmount and then sudo dd if...of (backwards). How can I make sure those SD cards have the data on them, be...

Can I run RPi0 on same SD card as RPi2

When I bought my first RPi it was an RPi2 and I got an SD card for it and ran used it for a while. Short after that I got an RPi0 and also used it. Im not sure if I used them at the same time (simultaneously) but I did use both I remember. Later on I moved to an RPi3 and today I found an SD card wit...

Python code isnt being run, I think

I have one python file calling another. The file is called, but not completely. In the called file I had to include the actual code inside of if __name__ == "__main__": because otherwise when the caller py imports the called file, the code gets run, and that cannot happen because I need to only call...

Re: Running 2 python scripts from rc.local on boot

Great thanks! What would be some pros and cons of running it as systemd in your experience, aside from what I read about a particular sequence of events which might affect timing of services, which in my case wouldnt be an issue?

Thx again

Running 2 python scripts from rc.local on boot

I currently have this: #!/bin/sh -e # # rc.local # # This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel. # Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other # value on error. # # In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution # bits. # # By default this ...

Logo on ssh terminal login of a rpi

Is there a way to have my ssh terminal display a 'logo' like the character based ones from some online servers that makes it readily available to confirm that the server you're logged into is the right one? I mean, thats not the purpose of the logos, but it helps because i have 2 rpis on my home net...

Re: Installing python3 on rpi2

Ok, because i think the other option I had which was to burn the hass.io image onto the SD and use THAT to boot my rpi: https://www.home-assistant.io/getting-started/ perhaps isnt the best option because from the size of the downloaded file of hass.io, which is 149MB, it seems i would be using my rp...

Installing python3 on rpi2

I had python 2.7.9, when I did python --version i would get that. I ran: sudo apt-get install python3 python3-venv python3-pip and in the end i ran python --version and still got 2.7.9. So googled around and found and did: python3 --version and i get 3.4.2 Does that mean I have both? But more import...

Interfacing rpi3 with Apple's HomeKit

Hi Does anyone know of examples of interfacing rpi3 with Apple's home kit? For example, I have a rpi3 that controls a relay board via ble. Id like to know if I could either: 1. Interface directly with the ble relay board, which is probably whats intended. 2. Interface with the rpi3 so that I can con...
