Re: USB Port Current Boost

Failure.. I got the Pi-Pass wired up (that was easy), but then the lower USB port fails to respond to anything. I tried 3 different keyboards before it dawned on my - "what about the top port?" - that made me feel like an idiot, but it did work. Deciding that a single-USB port wasn't gonna cut it, ...

Re: USB Port Current Boost

@dom - Well, that seals it. I'm gonna have to break out the soldering iron when I get home. I like the look of the Pi-pass (fewer connections to mess up), and that it'd be really easy to reverse the process (I have no SMD skills) if I decided to later. So, I think that's what I'll do. I'll post news...

Re: USB Port Current Boost

If I read this correctly, either by shorting out the polyfuses or adding a jumper (Pi-pass pictured by Larry_Adlard), I could run my old harddisk-based (80GB) iPod directly here. I've already connected it (iPod) through a hub and was able to lay down a partition table and the ext4 filesystem (the iP...

Re: Shame on you eBay sellers!

The profit motive is strong. Sadly, I'm part of the problem. If someone (me) is willing to pay four times list just to get one to work/play with. Granted, a hundred bucks is a stiff premium, but I don't regret it for a second. The RPi is a really nifty platform. I've already got (one of) mine doing ...

Re: add sudo access??

On my RPi (and many other systems), the account I normally use is 'kenkl'. So, my process for adding kenkl to the RPi so it could use sudo: 1. Use useradd to create the new user and home directory. It sounds like you've already done this bit, so okay. 2. The user needs to be added to the /etc/sudoer...

Re: VIA's entry into the low cost computer market

Bah. All this talk about gedit, nano, ed/edlin, etc. - and not one mention of vi yet? Unthinkable. VI is, after all, the correct editor. What is wrong with you people? ;) On topic: My view is that VIA's entry is very interesting, but probably fits a different market than the RPi. My impression of VI...

Re: Three SD-cards, three issues [Solved]

It's like we're living in a parallel universe or something. I got notification that mine was waiting for me at home, so I stopped at Best Buy on the way home. I got the 8GB flavour of the same SanDisk card (class 10, blah blah). When I got home, I got the same "mmc0: Timeout.." message. Had me a lit...

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone, I'm Ken (aka rustybikes). I first became aware of the RP by way of a thread on another forum I frequent. The title of the thread was/is "Raspberry Pi: your kid's Commodore 64" Having grown up with the C64, it got my attention. I've long had a soft-spot for the C64 - it was my first "rea...
