With the keyboard connected, the RPi hangs at various things, on the cmd line as well as within X. unplugging the USB keyboard instantly brings the Pi back. Happens with 2 different keyboards, connected via 2 different powered hubs.

Anyone else got this?

I was more thinking about extension cables being used internally, so a USB Hub, HDMI extension cable, with any type of power port you want converting to a scavenged microusb connector, that kind of thing.

I did eye them up but the price was just too much to justify for myself, but I'm cheap

Does anyone know which polyfuse relates to which port? Is F1 the bottom most USB port? If it previously worked it may be the polyfuses. I'd suggest a powered hub from now on. These RPi's seem too susceptible to overcurrent on the USB lines. Windows already has samba networking. You select a folder with your media and select it to share over the network. Then on the XBMC, you simply find the smb share and the pi can access the files. There may be additional steps, like providing passwords for access to samba shares, but that's the bones...

Things to think about are: Were your kb / mouse plugged in directly? You might have tripped the polyfuses. Unplug it and leave it for a day while they recrystallise. Then only connect your KB / mouse to the usb via a powered USB hub which is on before plugging the RPi back on. If you were running th...
