Re: Pi potentially broke my TV

The Raspberry-Pi can not source current from the TV. If you check the schematics you will find a diode in the HDMI 5V line which prevent this. The 'pi DOES do this. You might work at broadcom, you might know the designers personally, but this simply isn't true. When my 'pi is powered OFF, I can mea...

Re: DDoS attack on Raspbmc -- Website down and servers down.

I don't see it as being confusing. RASPMC_RC3.torrent as opposed to RASPMC_RC4.torrent shouldn't be too hard. But, I also agree that if he wants control and wants to distribute his software as he currently does, who are we to disagree? Although the DDOS is making that virtually impossible, it's his ...

Re: DDoS attack on Raspbmc -- Website down and servers down.

Really odd that a DDOS is ongoing here. Could it be as pathetic as someone who didn't get their device in a timely fashion? I thought all botnet attacks were kind of large scale criminal type behaviours. They probably read the forums to gauge reaction too. You're a laughable loser :) I can wait. Tor...

Re: Advance MAME (Findings so far)

That's very helpful. I think for certain distros that should be the default though - this being one of them. A LOT of windows only guys will be coming to the RPi and that's the kind of elemental step that people who work with linux take for granted, so never explain and becomes stumbling blocks for ...

Re: Advance MAME (Findings so far)

Yeah already overclocked to 900. I hope that somewhere along the line there's some kind soul who will get some kind of accelerated video going for this, although to be honest most of the games I'd want to play are already there. Pacland would be the one I want on top, and asteroids. This is a great ...

Re: Keyboard seems to lock up RPi

and while I'm asking, looking at the pins and solder under the board on the USB, the eight pins are only 7. The bottom right pin is missing (as you hold it upside down with the USB facing you, the HDMI socket to your right) My lower USB socket doesn't work. I've been connecting via the top one and a...

I need more detail in the how to I'm afraid. Unzip MAME - to where? what is the chmod for? And shouldnt it be sudo? I got the .rc file and added the line for HDMI - where though - anywhere in the file? running "sudo advmame 1942" (the game I chose) gives sudo: advmame: command not found I also tried...

Keyboard seems to lock up RPi

With the keyboard connected, the RPi hangs at various things, on the cmd line as well as within X. unplugging the USB keyboard instantly brings the Pi back. Happens with 2 different keyboards, connected via 2 different powered hubs.

Anyone else got this?

Re: I replaced the USB connector on my PI.

I was more thinking about extension cables being used internally, so a USB Hub, HDMI extension cable, with any type of power port you want converting to a scavenged microusb connector, that kind of thing.

I did eye them up but the price was just too much to justify for myself, but I'm cheap :)

Re: I replaced the USB connector on my PI.

Looks good. I'm suprised more cases aren't being done like this actually - bringing out all the connectors to a single location (prob at the back, maybe 1 USB at the front) like a small set top box.

Might actually be useful as a device itself, but surely could be dissected for a lot of usable parts for a RPi? How can...

F1 F2 polyfuse which USB socket?

Does anyone know which polyfuse relates to which port? Is F1 the bottom most USB port? I have intermittent resistance when measuring F1 - I think it might not be soldered in quite right but I am also having trouble with the bottom USB port. If they are linked it would explain everything I'm seeing. ...

Re: No network, no USB

If it previously worked it may be the polyfuses. I'd suggest a powered hub from now on. These RPi's seem too susceptible to overcurrent on the USB lines. In other threads here people are reporting faulty connections on the 25MHz crystal too. Oddly, putting it in the fridge for a bit cools it down al...

Re: Stream off of windows pc

Windows already has samba networking. You select a folder with your media and select it to share over the network. Then on the XBMC, you simply find the smb share and the pi can access the files. There may be additional steps, like providing passwords for access to samba shares, but that's the bones...

I'm sure it's easily possible to create a SATA to SDIO converter, but not sure of many potential uses which is why it probably hasn't been done - simple marketability. Anyway, if there isn't one there isn't one.

Re: SD to HDD conversion

I think a lot of people will go for a HDD who are interested in media players - maybe other uses. Not for a massive gain, but for something incremental as mentioned above, like overclocking 10% more (haven't we all done this now?) I just thought there would be a gizmo to allow a HDD to connect to an...

Re: No network, no USB

Things to think about are: Were your kb / mouse plugged in directly? You might have tripped the polyfuses. Unplug it and leave it for a day while they recrystallise. Then only connect your KB / mouse to the usb via a powered USB hub which is on before plugging the RPi back on. If you were running th...
