Lesson Plan and Resources for rPi short course

Hi, Just wondering if anyone out there has put together a lesson plan for an "Introduction to Raspberry Pi's" they'd be willing to share? I'm trying to put together a short course proposal but there are a number of variables I'm not sure how to implement best. e.g. 1.) What hardware to provide. Do I...

Re: Single static IP address for eth0

So after getting nowhere and trying everything I took the plunge a invested in a new rPi. Problem solved. Ethernet contact immediately and static IP working perfectly. So this is fixed. What I'm left wondering though is, what the hell went wrong with my existing rPi? Why did this happen and is it li...

Re: Single static IP address for eth0

At this point it could very well be that your Pi has gone faulty. Did you have a look at log files any errors ? Did you have a look at the log files on the router ? What happens when you plug the ethernet cable in the router and the Pi, does the router show that there is a link (led on) ? does the ...

Re: Single static IP address for eth0

Hi Ernst,
Thanks for responding. As I said in my original post, I've removed all possible sources of error. I have set it up as simply as possible now which means I have just a BARE rPi (no PoE hat), direct connection to router (no switch) and with a working cable.
And I still have an issue.

Re: Single static IP address for eth0

Not sure if this is the right place for this posting. I've had my ethernet suddenly drop out on my rPi for no known reason (I've had it set up successfully over PoE cable with PoE hat for months now). On removing all possible errors (connecting direct ethernet to router) I still cant get it register...

Outdoor passive speakers

Hi, I'm trying to find the best option to provide audio near a front gate where I have installed a rPi powered via a PoE hat. There are a few large surfaces there where a transducer might be good however I think I need an amplifier for this and don't want to add another amplifier card. Would it be p...

Re: Raspberry Pi remote smart doorbell

Is your network working? What do you get from ip addr ip route ping -c3 $(ip route | awk '/default/ {print $3}') ping -c3 8.8.8.8 ping -c3 google.com cat /etc/resolv.conf I'll check this tonight, but anyway, I think I've solved this. I tried putting a "sleep 60" into the launcher script and I think...

Re: Raspberry Pi remote smart doorbell

Update. I went back to crontab as this was part of the original project instruction and I kept reading it was the "easiest way to auto-run Python scripts at start-up" but it is JUST NOT WORKING and I have zero visibility as to why the hell not. So have gone back to the alternative method with a laun...

Re: Raspberry Pi remote smart doorbell

I still for the life of me can't get my script to execute in crontab so that it auto-runs on boot-up. I ended up creating a launcher.sh script which contained the myscript.py (doorbell.py in this case) but now the rPi won't boot. This is the second time this has happened and will be the 3rd time I'm...

Re: Raspberry Pi remote smart doorbell

Great, thanks. I've left it as mmcblk0p7 and all seems to be working okay. The challenge that is left is getting this to run on start-up. I've followed the instruction from the ExpertReviews article to put the following into the 'crontab' file (which seems to point towards a /tmp folder). '@reboot p...

Re: Doorbell

You might get a better response with a more appropriate topic title. This, as far as I can tell, has nothing to do with Doorbells. Thanks for the suggestion. Have updated the title. It's a project that I found here: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/technology/1404017/best-raspberry-pi-projects/page/0...

Raspberry Pi remote smart doorbell

Hi, I've started my first ever rPi project and am using a PoE Hat from dotnetdan and following the instructions set out by Expert Reviews UK. All the hardware is wired up, now just trying to get the rPi coded properly. The part that has tripped me up is about "converting the Pi's GPIO (General-Purpo...
