You don't appear to have determined whether the card is dead or merely corrupted. You're right I didn't, there was 1 port on my laptop I didn't try and it worked on that. I also was trying to use the USB hub on my desktop instead of a direct connection, I didn't think that it would matter but appar...

Is it possible to split the internet connection on an rpi so that sudo apt-get update will use internet via wifi on my router and use the ethernet connection for ssh?
