Re: 3.5" LCD on RPi 3

Just to clarify: Are you sure you're using NOOBS to set this up, and not simply downloading Raspbian and dragging and dropping the files onto the SD card? I had this problem when I first started using RPi and was trying to install Raspbian directly instead of through NOOBS. Before you do this, I wou...

Re: cgps displays a NO FIX even when recieving GPS data

It looks like your console is still running.. you need to disable it. Probably the last set of commands at the bottom should work. Regards, -Moses Stop serial terminal service, the Universal command will work for current modem version of Raspbian Jessie, others provided for reference # Universal co...

Re: cgps displays a NO FIX even when recieving GPS data

If anyone else ever sees this, here's another piece of the puzzle: The issue with gpsmon seems intermittent - but if I sudo cat /dev/ttyAMA0 right when it happens, I can see text that appears to be a command running at the device file. Here's a snipet of the readout: $GPVTG,342.29,T,,M,0.01,N,0.02,K...

Re: cgps displays a NO FIX even when recieving GPS data

Ok, I haven't changed anything, but now even running sudo gpsmon /dev/ttyAMA0 isn't working. When I run it I get the error gpsmon:ERROR: /dev/ttyAMA0 already opened by another process gpsmon: activation of device /dev/ttyAMA0 failed, errno=22 (Invalid argument) I think you have to run this first be...

Re: Raspberry Desktop not displayed

Most likely, the VNC desktop you have set to broadcast doesn't automatically load the GUI. Try running

Code: Select all

startx
when that screen pops up and see what happens.

Re: cgps displays a NO FIX even when recieving GPS data

One interesting thing that I've noticed is that if I run gpsmon without the additional arguments, the interface never loads and it just displays a bunch of settings. Could this have anything to do with it?

Re: cgps displays a NO FIX even when recieving GPS data

As far as I understand it, it is configured. I'm running

Code: Select all

sudo gpsd /dev/ttyAMA0 -F /var/run/gpsd.sock
and I have the device in /etc/default/gpsd set to /dev/ttyAMA0

Re: Sending data over UART in background

Oh, I didn't knew that the pi could output a pwm signal... I will just do that. Thanks There's a hardware PWM output and many gpio libraries can do DMA controlled PWM on any gpio pin. E.g. pigpio , RPIO . I prefer RPi.GPIO for its simplicity and user friendliness, but it only works with python.

cgps displays a NO FIX even when recieving GPS data

I have a Raspberry Pi B Rev 2 with an Adafruit GPS hat. GPSD is set up, and all the steps as described in this tutorial ( https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-ultimate-gps-hat-for-raspberry-pi/overview ) have been taken. I know I'm receiving GPS data, because the hat blinks every 10 seconds and I can...

Re: Amazon USB Hub 3.0 not working

At this point the Raspberry Pi doesn't really support USB 3.0 (In theory, it does, but it really doesn't when you try it).

Re: changing PI password as root

If you had files saved on user ROOT, they won't be transferred over to user PI. You have to manually find the files in the directory tree and copy them onto the PI desktop.

Re: What is the path to GPIO?

It might be easier to control GPIO pins using python. For example:

Code: Select all

import RPi.GPIO as GPIO
import time

GPIO.setmode(GPIO.BCM)
GPIO.setup(5, GPIO.OUT) #initialize GPIO pin 5

GPIO.output(5, GPIO.HIGH)
time.sleep(2)
GPIO.output(5, GPIO.LOW)
This would turn on GPIO pin 5 for 2 seconds.

Re: changing PI password as root

Try entering this in the command line:

Code: Select all

su - pi
If it prompts you for a password, the default one is 'raspberry'

Re: Using power bank as power source

I run my Raspberry Pi off of a power bank like the one you described, and it works fine. Make sure it has a large enough capacity though, because if the power starts to drop off or stops all together then the RPi will not be able to function correctly and the SD card may be corrupted.

Your english seems pretty good to me :)

Anyways, what usb wifi dongle are you using? It may not be AP compatible, which means it wouldn't be able to create a network that's visible to other devices.

I have a navigation system set up that takes readings from the Adafruit Ultimate GPS Hat and LSM303 Compass Module and controls a pair of DC motors. I want to solder the compass onto the GPS Hat, but I'm not sure if this will affect the compass readings – I haven't been able to find anything online ...

Reloading wifi when connection is dropped unexpectedly

I have a raspberry pi that is going to be mounted on a surfboard and connected wirelessly to a router onboard a boat. Because of this, it will no doubt experience network issues from time to time. When testing the wifi connection, I found that if the wifi connection drops, the raspberry pi doesn't a...
