Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

I had trouble at the beginning of the summer with whatever kernel version was current at that time. It happened on all the pi at my house which use pi cameras. CPU use would go through the roof. After reverting to a previous kernel, problem went away. Saw no reason to update since. Decided to upgrad...

Re: Meaning of kernel error after upgrade ?

So this only happened when accessing the media directory (which is located on the USB thumb drive) via browser from another pc. pikrellcam and it's confs reside on the sdcard. Any other traffic to anything else was fine. A bit of a cludge but solved it. checked all drives, no issues reported - no ch...

Meaning of kernel error after upgrade ?

I have 5 Pi running Pikrellcam/nginx. All have cameras and ds18b20 and USB thumb drive, running headless. Two are 3B, Three are Zeros. They were ALL working fine for many months. No issues at all, ever. I watch the logs and check on them often. They are all busy but load is low. Last night I did apt...

Pi Zero WH (in Canada)

I am behind the times... the Zero WH was announced and available at major Pi sales sites, I noticed after some looking around. I was about to order another Zero W and the headers separately from a Canadian online source when I noticed a listing for the WH... what's this now? Brilliant! For several d...

Re: Cold Pi

I think your Pi was a victim of moisture because of that case it was in. I hope it revives. I use various sizes of these "waterproof" enclosures from chinese sellers on ebay. I'd buy local but the price is 4 times the ebay cost. Several have been outside for over a year. This one is good for a Zero ...

I cannot use a usb harddrive for my pikrell cam becuase it is to cold outside. So i want to store the archives on another pi with a wd pidrive I have been trying for a few days now to store my archives on another pi with pi drive. I did get it to work with owncloud, but it synches so i cannot clear...

I'd like to know what exactly failed on your Pi at that temp. Seems a bit pre-mature for cold alone to have done it... was there moisture in the enclosure?

Re: Home temperature monitoring

that's cool, no worries. you need scripts: python, bash, etc to get info from the sensor and write to the rrd database, then a script to take that data from the db and make the graph. Cron takes care of it all at the interval you choose. It's automated, hands off once you get it working. There is no...

Re: Home temperature monitoring

I think you are going to be building that from scratch with pieces of code from other projects. Upside: it will do exactly what you need and have a low overhead. (as opposed to something like Cactus which I found to be a pig on resources. Couldn't remove it fast enough) Multiple Zero W with DS18B20 ...

Re: get file with scp

If it were me ( I I W M ), I would setup public and private key pair, do away with the password between the two and use scp to transfer the file which would easily allow you to define the location to save it.

Cold Pi

We had a cold night Wednesday into Thursday morning. This is from a Pi Zero W that has a camera and a ds18b20 temp sensor attached in a box outside. Around 6am Thurs the cpu reported it was at 3.5C with an outside temp of -16.8C. That is the coldest I've seen MY Pi(s) run so far. I'm hoping to see 0...

Re: Raspberry Pi 3 cant detect BME280 sensor

Does that model sensor have the onboard pull-up resistor? If not, you need to add one into your wiring.

I did not use the breadboard. It's wired direct to a Pi3. The sensor I used had an onboard resistor.

I figured it out finally. Thank you for replying Dougie. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4599/39332666692_55bd9a3988_o.png I used a different script and modified that to write to rrd db. It worked right away and is as accurate. I expect the temp to fall slightly and the humidity to rise when I move t...

I'd say #4 100%.🎄 Right on. Thanks Dougie. Merry Christmas to you. I have another python temp gathering script that works with a ds18b20 and writes to a rrdtool db. I'm going to spend some time learning what it's doing at the point it writes. That along with google, and I'm hoping to cobble some co...

Re: writing bme280 data to rrdtool db

Usually when no replies to a question on a forum, it's either: 1) a stupid question 2) not enough information given for anyone to answer or 3) with a little reading, the asker should be able to figure it out on her/his own and the forum folks are too polite to say that probably 50% 1 and 50% 3 :D

It's alive!

Code: Select all

Version : 0
Temperature : 21.61 C

BME280 temp/humidity sensor

I was pretty happy to receive a BME280 sensor in the mail today. I've been wanting to log the humidity in my home along with temps. I've been using ds18b20 on most of the PI I've built but of course, no humidity data from those. My first thought on looking at this sensor was: wow, small... https://f...

Re: Night-Vision animal monitor with blob detection?

You will need some kind of light for it to work at night. I have one of these https://www.amazon.com/Power-Array-Illuminator-Vision-Camera/dp/B01D73XM24 which works well, note it does need 12V and not the 5V the Pi uses. I second the recommendations of jbeale ... pikrellcam and those 4 led illumina...
