Connected usbhdd-drive from other Linux machine

both my Raspbian/Linux machines are having the same user fred44nl. this is just a name, because Linux uses some user-ID instead. when I connect a usb-hdd from one machine to another, the files on that disk are no longer owned by user fred44nl:fred44nl, by user 1001:1001. user 1001 does not exist on ...

Re: sudo reboot

I did get kernel version 4.14.52-v7+ #1123 a few days ago and in order to get that kernel active, I tried to reboot, which did not go. had to take the power off and on - not just once, but 3 times. did not reboot again, as I was happy that it came back up and running. so, now I did a reboot and it w...

Re: Processor frequency

thought this was an easy question :)
anyway, the up_threshold is on 50
I assume this is 50 out of 400.
thanks for the info.
let's leave it at this.
otherwise, it is going over my head :)

The load is obviously either 100% or idle (it cant "half" be executing instructions).
the processor of an RPi running a fair number of services is never idle.
there is always something that needs some attention.

Processor frequency [answered]

a Raspberry Pi 3B has 2 basic frequencies: 600 and 1200 MHz.
under low loads the frequency is 600 MHz.
at what load does the processor change from 600 to 1200 MHz ??

Re: Convert Raspbian Stretch Lite to video-output

it has been a useful lesson and I am grateful for the support here :) however, what is comes down to is: the limited performance of a RaspberryPI. we all know this and we are trying to get more out if it, than there is available. I was trying to stream a video-file that needed transcoding. the RPi w...

Re: Convert Raspbian Stretch Lite to video-output

RealVNC belongs to the latter category, it is what you want. ok, installed RealVNC on both ends, i.e. server and viewer. changed the boot-options, so the RPi boots with my account into the Desktop. and I got that on my TV. so far so good. in order to play video's, I have VLC installed. strangely en...

Re: How to find the IP of Pi 3 without monitor

you might be able to get the ip-adres from the dhcp-server in your router.

or you could install an IP-scanner: https://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com

so, how do I get my user-screen through HDMI on my TV ??
so, I did Raspi-Config and changed the boot option to boot into the Desktop under my user-name. and after rebooting I got my desktop showing on the TV.
however, I can not control that desktop through RDP.

what's the next step here ??

hooked it up to my TV, booted the RPi with a HDMI-cable connected. to my surprise my TV switched on all by itself and showed a black screen with Raspbian booting. after a while the screen went black, which is probably a screen-saver. so far so good, but it is not the same screen when I make a connec...

Re: Convert Raspbian Stretch Lite to video-output

Assuming your SD card is big enough for it all. I use the SD-card only to read cmdline.txt and the kernel. the rest comes from SDA1. Personally I would be inclined to start over with new SD card, USB stick whatever, then copy over all the data from the old headless media. Having a backup or two is ...

my RaspberryPi 3B is running completely headless. it has never seen a keyboard, mouse nor screen. it boots from the SD-card and runs from the attached usb-hdd. everything done to it, like installing software, downloading media, etc.etc. is done over SSH. media is streamed to my TV with miniDLNA and ...

I would advise against using "rpi-update".
That pulls development firmware and kernels:
yes, I know, but this was advised in this topic:

no reboot after "sudo touch /forcefsck"

so, I did "sudo rpi-update", which gave me kernel 4.14.48-v7+ next, I did "sudo reboot now", which resulted in a proper reboot. after that, I did "sudo touch /forcefsck", rebooted and my RPi did not come back. waited like 15 mins. there was no usb-HD activity. so I pulled the power-supply. re-applie...

Try sudo rpi-update to get a 4.14.48 kernel and bootcode that fixes the "won't reboot" bug. It's slightly experimental but the latest build is now four days old.
is there any idea when this kernel comes available for "normal" update/upgrade ??

Re: Headless sdcard shutdown power off

if you connect to your RPi with SSH, you could give a shutdown command from there.
most operating systems will write back the info and data they have in cache.
