Re: Overclocking

Does the RPi hold the overclocking settings when changing to an SD card were the config.txt file isn't present or in its absence will factory settings be applied?
This is withstanding over_voltage=6 which I understand is irrevocable.

I asked this question, apparently Kernel_Emergency.img is never used, its there for you to copy over the original kernel if you need to revert changes.

Re: XFCE on the Pi - Making your Pi GUI run faster!

Does this option apply only when connecting to a screen? My Pi is headless for the vast majority of the time so I mostly use SSH/Putty and start up VNC when I want a desktop GUI. I followed the steps to install XFCE & Slim & they appear to have completed successfully however when I start VNC on the ...

Re: VAX/VMS on RaspberryPi

I'm running Simh on the Pi as well but I gave up trying to find a VAX usergroup that didn't charge an annual subscription. I do have RSTS/E & OS8 running though, the latter with the Fortran release of Adventure which I find really cool - Colossal Caves by Level 9 on the ZX Spec with the first comput...

Re: rpi-update - Firmware updater for Raspberry Pi

Ha ha, sounds like I've may have made another nood mistake then ;)
Did the updater change any files within /lib/modules/?
I haven't installed or updated any other packages since the 'fudge'.

Thanks for the heads up.

Re: rpi-update - Firmware updater for Raspberry Pi

After reading related posts in the forum I've returned my Pi to its previous state. I'm sure that I've gone the long way around the houses but here's how I did it. Imaged a second SD card with the Debian 19-04 image. Inserted this card into my laptop & copied these files to a folder on its desktop.....

Re: rpi-update - Firmware updater for Raspberry Pi

Re: rpi-update - Firmware updater for Raspberry Pi

Thanks Andrew. Just as a by I am now getting all sorts of reading SD card errors when the Pi powers up, eventually after a good 5 minutes it changes to an alternative mode (something about single block) & then boots fine. The output is:- -Error 110 whilst initialising SD card Problem reading SD Stat...

Re: rpi-update - Firmware updater for Raspberry Pi

Can you tell me what sockets rpi-update uses when connecting to the internet?
I receive the following error & I suspect a new firewall rule at the perimeter is needed to allow access.

github.com[0: 207.97.227.239]: errno=Connection timed out
fatal: unable to connect a socket (Connection timed out)

Simh on the RPI

I've installed simh onto the RPi without any difficulties, so far I have it emulating a PDP-11 with RSTS/E v7 installed & also PDP-8 running OS8, the disk image that I have for OS8 includes the original 1980 port of Adventure AKA Colossal Caves. I am having fun! I've put a couple of minute video tog...

Forum password reset problems

I am having real problems when I attempt a password reset for my account, I have had to set up a second user account (this one) to be able to make this post. Is there any way that a forum administrator can contact me to get my original account up & running again please?
