Re: Chrooting raspberry pi images unable to unmount?

.. have you tried to do it? and were you able to do it successfully? Unmounting partitions whilst in a chroot environment - no. Have I used a chroot environment - yes. (& exited without any problems) 8-) Oh you have misundestood my initial post, I'm not trying to unmount partitions whilst in a chro...

Re: Chrooting raspberry pi images unable to unmount?

Some of these mounts I can unmount If that is what you did, you may well have a broken chroot, & therefore not being able to exit it. I don't see how I could have possibly broken chroot when all I have done is typed in the chroot command and then typed in exit once in the chroot environment. The pa...

How do I exit from chrooted jail?

Type exit
$ exit
I tried typing exit, but I am still unable to unmount the partitions, they are still busy.

Re: Chrooting raspberry pi images unable to unmount?

You are still in the changerooted system, detaching just means that you can reattach elsewhere or from another computer, it leaves the system running in the background, if I remember, so you need to exit the changerooted system. How would I exit the changerooted system? I have tried typing exit, bu...

Chrooting raspberry pi images unable to unmount?

I found a question over on the Raspberry Pi Stack Exchange that talked about updating software in raspberry pi images to save SD write cycles. This is something I have been able to do successfully following the answer posted here: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/855/is-it-possible-to...

Re: Unable to mount raspberry pi image

Clearly didn't read all of my post!

I know that works, that's what I said at the end! But it doesn't work if the file is on the host OS system and being shared to the guest OS.

If the file is on the guest OS it works fine!

Unable to mount raspberry pi image

I am having major difficulties trying to mount a raspberry pi image in a Linux (Debian 9) VM. Firstly I have googled and googled some more, searched this forum also, and read most if not all the threads and I still can't do it. I have tried using kpartx, this gives me various errors, I read that som...

Re: Raspbian Stretch Expand Filesystem

Win32Diskimager copies the entire card full or not. So an 8GB card will produce an 8GB image. SD cards even from the same manufacture with same advertised size are not necessarily exactly the same size. If the destination card is even the slightest bit smaller than the source card then the image wr...

Raspbian Stretch Expand Filesystem

I have two 8gb micro SD cards, and I was wanting to clone the first to the second, so I used Win32ImageWriter to make a copy of the card, but the created image couldn't be written to the 2nd micro SD card due to lack of space. Strange as they should both be 8gb, nevermind I thought I would just put ...

Re: adding new users to raspbian stretch lite

It looks like you have not set the default shell for your new user to bash, to do this enter the following: sudo usermod -s /bin/bash <your new user name> Yes partially correct, for some reason when I created the user, the useradd command didn't create the user with the default shell it should have...

Re: adding new users to raspbian stretch lite

Within the "/etc" directory there should be a "./skel" directory that is used as a skeleton directory structure when a new user is added. Making changes to the files in this directory should carry over to any new user being added. I have made the changes to the files in that directory, and the upda...

adding new users to raspbian stretch lite

I'm looking to add a new user to my raspberry pi running raspbian stretch lite. I followed this guide to attempt to secure my pi, I've only done down to the SSH section and not gone further than that yet. https://makezine.com/2017/09/07/secure-your-raspberry-pi-against-attackers/ I've made some alte...

Re: pi psu with 3 metre cable

The voltage drop on 3m cable is big. I would rather use a 3m exrension cord to the wall socket and have a short cable. isn't it possible/easyer/cheaper to use a 220V (or 110V) extension cable to bring the mains power closer to the RPi instead of using an expensive USB cable to power up the RPi? I a...

Re: pi psu with 3 metre cable

Those power requirements are the absolute maximum that a Pi may need with a full set of USB peripherals using 1.2A and a camera and maybe a HAT. The Pi 3 will run on it's own on about half that power. The important thing is to have quality cables to prevent voltage loss. Oh right so if I am just us...

pi psu with 3 metre cable

I am in need of putting my pi approx 3 metres away from a power socket, basically on top of some tall bookcase shelves. I am currently using a raspberry pi 2, and I bought a micro usb extension cable from ebay china, the cable seems to work well, but did have a bit of an initial red flashing power l...

RPI 2 config.txt and raspi-config

I have been using the now older Raspberry Pi B and B+ for a long time, but I had bought a Raspberry Pi 2, before there was a Raspberry Pi 3, but haven't had much time to use it, until now. I've put the new Raspbian Stretch on it, but it seems keeping it as is, the Pi is running at 700Mhz and not the...

Re: Configuring HDMI resolution for more than one monitor

Should the below work in my config.txt file ? No. Please check the doc I linked to. The syntax is [EDID=VSC-TD2220] And the value can be found by using 'tvservice -n' Oh yes, sorry I have looked again and see it now. I've since corrected it as follows, with the settings for the monitor/tv I will be...

Configuring HDMI resolution for more than one monitor

I am hoping someone can jog my memory as to how to do this. I have a more than one monitor/tv that I use with the raspberry pi, and would like them both to be configured so that they have the correct resolution as and when I connect them to my pi. Please note that I don't need and won't be using the...
