Re: no Wireless interfaces found (Again)

I've got this issue as well. I set up my Zero W headless, never had it connected to a monitor since I don't have an HDMI adapter yet (its on the way). I had it set up, connected to the wifi, seemed fine. I was able to ssh into it, update/upgrade went fine. Forgot about it for a few days with other p...

Re: Carputer Pi 3

In my situation, since we are in an RV, I can power it off the house batteries and not have to worry about the on/off of the engine killing power to it. I have to run an electrical cable from the batteries to the dash, add a fuse box just for the dash power stuff, and probably a voltage regulator, b...

Re: RV Integration

Not coming along nearly as fast as I'd hoped. I have plex and RetroPie set up, and that's really it at this point. I've been working on other stuff, btu I think I might have to make a dedicated Ubuntu box to work as a file server, rclone backup, Plex server, and web server, and then have a Pi for Re...

Re: GPIO Beginner Info Needed

Well the reason I was trying to build a mechanism myself is because one of the electric fans costs over $100. We have four vents, so that would get really expensive. I could get the fans that have builtin rain sensors and close when it starts raining, but then those each cost nearly $100. Figure if ...

GPIO Beginner Info Needed

So its been a long time since I have messed with any electronics. I've built a few Pis, installed raspbian, all good on that front. Got them to do what I want. but I want to expand outward and start messing with things and make some smart home stuff. My first project is gonna be lights through openH...

How to integrate audio into RV sound system?

My wife and I live full time in a 30 year old RV. We've been slowly working on updating it and remodeling it and I'm to the point where I want to add a sound system to it, I'm just not sure how to go about it. There are speakers in a few places throughout the RV, but they are all attached to a very ...

Kernel panics?

I'm not sure what is going on, but I think its kernel panics going on. When my Pi is running, all it is running is Plex Media server within Raspbian. Normally its fine, however, if I am logged in through ssh and just have the window open in the background, I'll get errors. They all start with "kerne...

Re: Carputer Pi 3

I had actually looked into mini-box awhile ago and still may go with one. I would like to have something that has ethernet and can be powered by DC, and preferably run a Linux distro. I have a Plex server running on a Lenovo stick PC, and it sucks. No ethernet, one USB part, 2GB ram. I'd prefer some...

Re: Powered USB hub for server setup

I have one of those at our home base, waiting to get home to set it up. I wasn't sure if those were even 2.5amps either or 2.1. With something like that, if I could some how connect it to a power switch, then I could power down everything and shut it off, then flip the switch and power it all back u...

Powered USB hub for server setup

I'm going to be setting up a few Pi3s, maybe 3 B+ if I can get some, but I'm running into an issue with power. I would prefer to be able to connect them all to a powered USB hub and have them all run off one small hub instead of having a bunch of power adapters. Trouble is, I'm having trouble findin...

Re: Carputer Pi 3

Reviving a dead thread. How are you going to power the Pi3? The 3 requires 2.5 amps, but every USB port for cars that I'm finding is only 2.1 amps. Have you found any that can put out more power needed for the Pi3? I'm working on integrating a Pi3 using Plex into my RV and trying to figure out how t...

Re: RV Integration

Well after some flirtation with Win10, I've come back to using a few Pi3's for this project. I have to figure out the power issue though, which is my main concern. If I can figure out how to power everything from the 12volt batteries in the RV, then I never have to worry about them be shut off. I'm ...

Try this:

Raspbian doesn't have NTFS read built in, have to add it after market.

Re: Most efficient and compact way to power Rpi3 with solar power

I'm living in an RV, so solar power and limited electric are things I have to pay attention to. What I would say is get a battery. That way the battery fills up will electricity and feeds it to the Pi, all the while the solar panel is charging the battery. Then you don't have to worry about low volt...

Re: RV Integration

One other thing I'd like to add. For the media server I'd also like to have a way to control it from a tablet mounted in the dash of the RV. We have a large hole currently, about 15 inches square, and its the perfect place to mount a cheap Android tablet. I'm not sure how well the Plex app works for...

Re: RV Integration

Eight months later and I bring this back from the dead. Maybe someone is still subscribed to this thread. I wrote a long post on my blog (http://www.bubbaontheroad.com/2017/12/09/raspberry-pis-everywhere/) about what I all want to do with this RV and turn it into a Smart Home on Wheels. In case you ...

Re: Smart Home on Wheels

I wrote a long post on my blog about the things I want to do with a Raspberry Pi network including temperature monitoring, file sharing, media sharing, smart home controller, a core unit, and a VPN/Router. I have a AT&T Mobley with unlimited data. I would like all of our traffic to go through that. ...

Smart Home on Wheels

I'm working on a project for my blog called Smart Home on Wheels. Basically, I want to create a series of articles for others that live in their RV full time like us to bring the automation of their traditional home into their new mobile life. I had been tooling around with different computers and s...

Re: RV Integration

Well, I temporarily put that part on the back burner. I had a Lenovo Stick PC, so I'm in the process of transferring all my media over to the external hard drive since I finally got it working in Windows. I'll just use Kodi on Windows to play my media. So that part can be ignored for now, I'll come ...

Re: RV Integration

I did that too, and it says its too big a drive.

I reformatted it as exFAT, and I get the UUID and everything seems fine, just can't get it to mount. I installed the exFAT drivers too, so it sees it as an exFAT drive, it just won't mount it for some reason.

Re: RV Integration

Hrm. Getting frustrated. The HDD is formatted NTFS. It mounts fine in macOS. I don't have a Windows box to test it, but I have not formatted it from the original opening of the package, so I assume it work there as well. However, with dmesg, I get this: [ 21.180682] sda: sda1 sda2 [ 21.182812] sd 0:...

Re: RV Integration

So I decided to start from scratch and reinstall Raspbian, and have the brand new hard drive and go from there. And I'm running into problems. Re: RV Integration

Also, if I'm using netatalk to share the HDD from the Pi to the Mac, does it matter what format the HDD is in on the PI? I mean if I can read it through the Pi, then filesharing should allow me to read/write through netatalk as well, right?

Re: RV Integration

Ok good, that's what I thought. I might have to do a reinstall of Raspbian on the Pi3 hub and start from scratch because I've been trying to do so many things with it that I'm not sure what packages I've all added. I do have it set up with netatalk and TightVNCServer though so I can access it throug...
